Lincoln City Players’ Future Becomes Clear In Latest Update

Two Lincoln City players have had their immediate futures confirmed after much speculation had surrounded their situation.

Lincoln released their retained list back in May, with several player’s futures confirmed. The list included those who were under contract for the 2024/25 season, as well as confirming the loan players who would be returning to their parent clubs.

However, there was no confirmation as to the future of players out on loan from the Imps, including three playing in Ireland. The Irish Premier Division runs from February to October, meaning a summer recall is not always the case.

Oisin Gallagher and Hayden Cann are two players currently plying their trade over the Irish Sea, for Premier Division side Drogheda United after both joined the club on loan in January.

Although both have been regular starters for the struggling Irish outfit after playing almost 20 games each, history would suggest that both would return to Sincil Bank this summer, following the same path that Imps youngsters Freddie Draper and Sean Roughan travelled.

That assumption has now been confirmed. Speaking to Lincoln fan site The Stacey West on YouTube, Irish journalist David Sheehan explained that Drogheda manager Kevin Doherty confirmed that all three of his loan players would return to their parent clubs at the end of June.

This news may also come as a boost to Walsall, as Evan Weir, who was purchased by the West Midlands Club in January but sent back out on loan, will also be returning.

It is unclear exactly what the future holds for both Gallagher and Cann now though, with the latter still in discussions over a new contract at Michael Skubala’s side.

Lincoln have had great success sending players over to Drogheda in recent years and there will be a hope that the two who went this year can follow in those footsteps.

Although the step-up may be too large for either player to make an immediate impact in League One, there could be the potential for another loan move to progress them to the level needed, in a similar vein to striker Draper.
