Three free agents Sunderland boss Lee Johnson could turn to this winter

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

Mendez-Laing is a bit of a provocative personality, having twice been fired by clubs for serious breaches of contract. There is little doubt he’s a talent, having played Premier League for a while, but he needs somewhere to rebuild his reputation and yet command half decent wages. Sunderland would be a perfect fit, especially as he has a decent record at this level during his time with Rochdale. He’s recently been pictured training hard ahead of what might be a sensational return to the game, and the fact he could cost nothing would be a big bonus to the Black Cats.
