The Sofa Score League Two Team of the Week has been announced, with Carlisle and Port Vale heavily represented after good results.
Port Vale managed a remarkable 6-3 win away at Bolton in the most entertaining game of the weekend. They had six different scorers as they defeated Ian Evatt’s side, the largest defeat the Trotters have had at their current stadium. Cristiano Montano kept up his impressive recent form to earn a spot in the TOTW, with David Worrall also included after his goal. They’re joined up top by Crawley Town forward Max Watters, who bagged a brace in a 3-3 draw with Mansfield Town. He has 12 goals in 14 outings for Crawley and is sure to be attracting interest.
Carlisle were the other big winners of the weekend, keeping up the pressure on the top three with a 1-0 win at Bradford City. Defender Rhys Bennett got the only goal of the game to earn his spot, whilst Dean Furman had an accomplished game to join him in the side. Bradford keeper Richard O’Donnell might have been on the losing side, but he was rated as the best keeper of the weekend in League Two.
Wes McDonald scored as Walsall won 3-1 at Tranmere to earn his spot, whilst Nicky Cadden impressed as Forest Green won 1-0 at Harrogate to earn their spots in the midfield. Newport County kept up their good recent form to remain on top of the table, beating Morecambe 2-1. Scott Twine didn’t get on the scoresheet, but he suitably impressed to complete the midfield four.
It’s been a miserable time for Southend United this season and they already look likely to fall out of the league. They picked up only their sixth point of the season in a 0-0 draw with Stevenage, but Timothée Dieng impressed sufficiently to earn his spot in the TOTW. Another player whose side weren’t on the right side of a result – Harrogate’s Connor Hall, completes the side.
Despite serving up an eight-goal thriller at Whaddon Road, neither Cheltenham Town nor Exeter City have a player in the TOTW.
