Three free agents Sunderland boss Lee Johnson could turn to this winter

George Thorne

Thorne is still only 27-years-old and could do a job in League One, as he began to prove with Oxford United last season. Capped up to England Under 19 level, he came through the ranks at West Brom, making a decision to move to Debry County which failed to bring him the success his potential hinted at.
Thorne is primarily a defensive midfielder, a player that acts as a conduit for quick transition, something Lee Johnson likes. Johnson also regularly switches his formation to suit the game, rather than being rigid, which means sometimes calling on double sixes in front of the defence, again perfect for Thorne.
