‘Couldn’t run a bath’ – Some Southend fans lash out after latest managerial development

Southend United are talking to Weymouth manager Molesley, according to the Echo News, but the inconsistency in the message is causing many fans problems.

The Blues have been without a manager since Sol Campbell left in June, and with the league season only a few weeks away they are still hunting his successor. They had been linked with Barnet’s Darren Currie, but attention has now turned to Molesley after his success with Weymouth.

The 39-year-old has guided the Terras to successive promotions, resulting in them getting back into the National League for the first time since 2009. He’s been publicly backed by Harry Redknapp and coaches Bournemouth’s Under 21 side too. The problem fans have is not with the alleged approach for Molesley, but with the inconsistency of the message.

Ron Martin claimed yesterday the club were in the final stages of negotiations and expected to make an announcement, but today’s news suggests that wasn’t exactly the case. Whilst they could have been speaking to Molesley before today, fans do have plenty of reason not to trust their chairman.

After a horrible season in which he dismissed one manager and oversaw a dismantling of the first team, they were relegated. Campbell arrived after a high-profile move for Henrik Larsson collapsed and it left Southend a laughing stock, as well as certs for the drop long before points per game put them out of their misery.

Molesley would clearly be a step forward for the club, but these fans just aren’t convinced Ron Martin is as transparent as he claims to be.
