Boreham Wood Stun National League With Club Record Signing

Boreham Wood have confirmed the permanent signing of midfielder Zak Brunt from Barnet on a contract running to the end of the 2026-27 season, giving the club their second signing in as many days.

Boreham Wood announced that they have completed the permanent transfer of 23-year-old Brunt from Barnet. The deal follows a loan spell in the 2025 campaign and replaces Wood’s earlier short-term options with a long-term investment.

Brunt has signed through to the end of the 2026-27 season, with an option for an additional 12-month extension, and the move reportedly marks a club-record fee for Boreham Wood.

Brunt Returns Where He Excelled On Loan

Brunt, who was born in Chesterfield, returned to Boreham Wood having previously featured on loan for the club during the 2022-23 season and again at the start of the current campaign. His familiarity with the squad and stadium was cited by the club as a major factor in making the deal permanent. After signing, Brunt said:

“It’s been in the pipeline for a while. I feel loved here. I really enjoy playing in this team, it’s a special group. The sky’s the limit for us.”

His move provides continuity for manager Luke Garrard who had secured another signing earlier in the week in the form of young goalkeeper Ted Curd from Chelsea’s academy.

Wood Focus On Stability And Ambition

While Boreham Wood operate in the National League, the club’s decision bears a clear statement of intent.

The club have committed to a longer-term contract for a player who is still entering the prime years of his career. The option for a further year gives flexibility should Brunt continue to progress.

For Brunt, this move offers stability and a platform to further his development in a team that clearly values him. The Wood’s recruitment strategy this week with two signings in quick succession suggests they are preparing to challenge strongly in the upcoming seasons.

The addition of Brunt is expected to strengthen the midfield and bring creativity, given his technical background and previous performances in the league. With the club history favouring smart recruitment over high volume, this record signing could mark a pivotal moment in the Wood’s progression.

Boreham Wood are currently riding high in the National League after earning promotion last season. They’re second behind former Football League team York City, level on points with Forest Green Rovers.

Having recently seen the likes of Sutton United and Bromley reach the EFL for the first time, they’re clearly looking to emulate and improve, with two big statement signings.
