‘Are you actually happy with that dross?’ – These unhappy Portsmouth fans react to upbeat player comment

Saturday’s 1-0 win over League One strugglers Bolton did nothing to ease the toxic atmosphere amongst many Portsmouth fans with plenty of supporters still calling for the sacking of manager Kenny Jackett.

It was a laboured and uninspired performance that did nothing to excite the crowd or lay to rest the discontent brought about by a poor start to the season which has seen Pompey lose three of their opening eight league fixtures, leaving them nineteenth in the table.

For defender Sean Raggett, the game marked only his second League One start for Pompey following his loan move from Norwich City, and he was understandably pleased to be part of a defence which kept only the team’s second clean sheet in the league this season. He posted on social media there was nothing better than a clean sheet and three points to confirm his delight, but in doing so, he perhaps misjudged the mood of a section of the club’s support.

In responding to the tweet, many fans took the opportunity to state their unhappiness at the club’s current plight and the poor performance. Despite the win, some did not hold back in their criticism of the player, the team and the manager. Others questioned whether the tweet was part of a public relations exercise instigated by their under-fire manager, and it is clear that many of the fans that booed the side off at half-time were also on social media.

In fairness, some fans lept to the player’s defence, but as the following selection of responses illustrates, the Fratton Park terraces are not a happy place at the moment.
