  • 1st Prediction For Portsmouth vs Bristol City: Match Result – Bristol City – 6/4
  • 2nd Prediction For Portsmouth vs Bristol City: Under 1.5 Goals – 9/4
  • 3rd Prediction For Portsmouth vs Bristol City: Both Teams To Score – No – 1/1

1st Prediction For Portsmouth vs Bristol City: Match Result – Bristol City – 6/4

After 2 losses from their first 3 Championship home matches, Portsmouth have posted an impressive record at Fratton Park. Pompey’s only defeats since then have come against the current top 2 sides in the division, winning twice and adding 2 draws. Victories over teams in the upper echelons of the table, including fast-starters Middlesbrough, have proved that John Mousinho’s team are more than capable of making their home stadium an intimidating place to visit.

Bristol City rank highly in the away standings, though the Robins are now 3 without victory after losing at Wrexham last night. As a result, Gerhard Struber’s outfit dropped a couple of places in that metric, sitting eighth after starting the campaign 5 unbeaten on the road. That has been promptly ended by their recent fortunes, needing a response to re-ignite their promotion aspirations.

And given Pompey’s equally poor form in recent times, City should be confident of ending their poor run of form with 3 points on the road this weekend.

2nd Prediction For Portsmouth vs Bristol City: Under 1.5 Goals – 9/4

Pompey have struggled for goals on home soil, evidenced by the fact that the 3 scored in their win over Swansea City represents a third of their overall tally from 9 matches. After going scoreless in their opening 2 games of November, Portsmouth responded by hitting 5 in the 2 games that followed. And those goals against the Swans means they now average a goal a game at their Hampshire home.

Only 5 second-tier sides have bettered the Robins’ 11 away goals in the Championship this season, but they were scoreless in North Wales on Wednesday evening. In fact, there has been a real downturn in Bristol City’s form in front of goal away from the South West, only managing 3 in their last 5. With the 2 sides’ goalscoring prowess lacking, expect either goalkeeper picking the ball out of their net to be a rare occurrence.

3rd Prediction For Portsmouth vs Bristol City: Both Teams To Score – No – 1/1

By shipping 10 times at home, Pompey have an average record for goals against in the second tier. Conceding twice against runaway leaders Coventry City is better than some sides have managed this season, keeping 2 clean sheets in their last 5 matches in Hampshire. The goal which Millwall pulled back last Saturday is the only goal Pompey have conceded on home soil this month.

City once again rank highly in this department, with just 6 bettering their 10 goals against in 8 matches. Half of that tally came in 90 minutes away at Stoke City, while the Robins kept 3 successive clean sheets away from home earlier in the campaign. And expect them to add a fourth shutout on the South Coast this Saturday lunchtime.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Portsmouth lost for the fifth time in 7 matches with a crushing 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United on Wednesday evening, reducing their gap above the relegation zone to just two points. Three points against Millwall last Saturday had ended their 6-game run without a win in some style. It was the perfect way to return from the international break, though the majority of the results beforehand hadn’t quite been as bad as that form would have suggested.

After recording 5 points from 9 on offer at the start of October, beating high-flyers Middlesbrough, that run was ended by Boro’s promotion challengers Coventry and Stoke. Following a hammering in the Second City by Birmingham City, a draw against Wrexham was followed by a narrow reverse against in-form Hull City. Looking ahead, Pompey are on the road in 3 of their next 4, with trips to Charlton Athletic, Swansea City and Derby County before Christmas, with Blackburn Rovers at home inbetween.

Bristol City also had midweek disappointment, missing the chance to go within a point of the automatic promotion places by losing at Wrexham. The Robins appeared to have got back on track by easing to victory over their neighbours across the border, Swansea, last Saturday. Three successive October victories over Norwich City, Southampton and Birmingham had City up to fourth in the division.

But their form rapidly deteriorated before the international break, starting with a thrashing at Stoke, before losing to Blackburn and drawing at Watford. And their latest loss has seen the Robins slip out of the Play-Off places once more, in an incredibly compact second-tier table. Millwall and Leicester City are next up at Ashton Gate, before games against 2 of the top 3, Coventry and Middlesbrough, before Christmas.
