  • 2nd Prediction For Hull City vs Portsmouth: Under 2.5 Goals – 17/20
  • 3rd Prediction For Hull City vs Portsmouth: Both Teams To Score – No – 21/20

1st Prediction For Hull City vs Portsmouth: Match Result – Hull City – 21/20

While Hull lost their unbeaten streak at Derby County on Tuesday evening, the Tigers remain undefeated on home soil in their last 5 outings. Since losing to Blackburn Rovers in August, Sergej Jakirović’s outfit have won 3 of their 5 games on home soil, adding to their first victory of the campaign against Oxford United. Those wins came against underperforming Leicester City, Sheffield United and Southampton.

Since Portsmouth won their opening away game of the season at Oxford United, it’s been far from plain sailing. Pompey have the fourth-worst record in the Championship on their travels, though they have played fewer matches than many of their second-tier rivals. Half of their 6 games have ended in draws, while John Mousinho’s side were thrashed by Birmingham City at the weekend in their third successive defeat across all venues.

In keeping with the current Championship standings, expect Hull to claim a victory against Portsmouth.

2nd Prediction For Hull City vs Portsmouth: Under 2.5 Goals – 17/20

The Tigers’ games this season at the MKM Stadium are among some of the most entertaining in the division, one of only 4 sides to have double figures for goals for and against. Hull’s tally of 12 goals from 7 games is bettered by just 4 teams. And they have scored in each of their last 5 games in East Yorkshire.

On the other hand, Pompey have found the net just 4 times away from home this season, the joint-worst record in the second tier. They have been scoreless in 2 of those 6 matches, managing a maximum of 1 goal in the remaining 4 games. With that in mind, expect this to be a low-scoring affair this weekend.

3rd Prediction For Hull City vs Portsmouth: Both Teams To Score – No – 21/20

As mentioned above, Hull games have seen plenty of goalmouth action in East Yorkshire, with the Tigers shipping 10 times in 7 matches. And despite their unbeaten streak on home soil, they have kept only 1 shutout in their last 5 games. In their last 11 fixtures across all venues, Jakirović’s side have scored in every game, but have conceded in all but 2 of them.

Despite their difficult form away from home, Pompey’s fortunes in the defensive third had been relatively good. Portsmouth had kept 2 clean sheets and conceded only 4 times until their thrashing by Birmingham City at the weekend. But, after their goalless draw against Wrexham on Wednesday evening, expect Pompey to draw another blank this Saturday.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

A goalkeeping error from Ivor Pandur cost Hull City a point at Derby County on Tuesday evening, as the Tigers fell to a first league defeat in 7 games. Since returning from the October international break, they have recorded 3 victories from 4 matches, ending Birmingham City’s long unbeaten home record in the process. Wins against Leicester City and Norwich City, along with a point against Charlton Athletic, have the East Yorkshire outfit on the cusp of the Play-Off places.

Jakirović’s side had shown signs of what was to come before the 2 week break from action in October, defeating Sheffield United and Southampton. Before their midweek loss in the East Midlands, Hull were last defeated by Watford at the end of September, one of only 4 league losses this term. The Tigers have a tricky final 3 fixtures of November to contend with, with trips to Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City, while Ipswich Town at home is sandwiched inbetween.

As far as Portsmouth are concerned, their return from the October international window has been quite the opposite. It started with a very respectable point at Leicester City, but 3 successive losses have since followed. Losing to the two sides currently in the automatic promotion places, Coventry City and Stoke City, both by a single goal, was hardly unexpected.

But Pompey were well-beaten in the West Midlands last Saturday by Birmingham, before taking a point to end the losing run against Wrexham last night. And this all followed 4 points from 6 at the beginning of last month, with an impressive victory over Middlesbrough. After the international break, Pompey also face 3 crunch games in a week, with a trip to Sheffield United separating home fixtures against Millwall and Bristol City.

Both matches last season ended in 1-1 draws, meaning a stalemate is the joint-most popular outcome in 58 meetings, along with a Pompey win.
