‘Made my day,’ ‘Hallelujah’ – In yet another day of bad news for Bolton, these fans celebrate striker exit

On a day when a court injunction put the proposed takeover of Bolton Wanderers in jeopardy, the ability of football supporters to stoically laugh in the face of adversity was demonstrated once again when news broke that striker Josh Magennis had been sold to Championship side Hull City for an undisclosed fee.

Magennis refused to play in Wanderers’ opening game of the season at Wycombe after his request to terminate the remaining twelve months of his contract was blocked by administrators.

Judging by the reaction of Bolton supporters to the move on social media, It appears the striker would not win many popularity contests in Bolton following his weekend actions.

However, the Northern Ireland international’s no show at Adams Park is not the only problem. His poor goal record and lacklustre performances since joining the club from Charlton a year ago have certainly not enhanced his reputation at the Reebok Stadium.

The twenty-eight-year-old managed only four goals from forty-two Championship outings last season, and on a day when the future of the club was once again under threat, many Wanderers’ fans found some solace and happiness when reacting to the news of his exit on Twitter.

The appalling way the club’s owners, administrators and EFL have treated Bolton supporters is a national disgrace, but these fans still managed to break out a smile when they heard the news, as illustrated by this small selection of responses to the announcement of a departing striker they quite clearly didn’t rate.
