Bolton Wanderers Face Anxious Wait Ahead Of Major January Decision

Bolton Wanderers could be hit with a major blow in January should Brighton & Hove Albion decide to recall winger Amario Cozier-Duberry from his season-long loan, according to EFL pundit Don Goodman.

The 20-year-old has been a revelation since joining the Trotters in the summer, emerging into one of the deadliest attacking forces in League One. Bolton’s surge up the league table in recent weeks has been spearheaded by the youngster, who has 10 goal contributions to his name in all competitions.

His rich vein of form included a goal and an assist in dramatic circumstances in a 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town last month. The attacker then followed that up with the winner in a 1-0 win against Cardiff City.

Schumacher Delighted With ‘Main Man’

Cozier-Duberry’s impact at the Toughsheet Community Stadium has been clear for all to see. It’s been a big season so far, which is just what he needed after an underwhelming stint at Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers last season.

This led to Bolton head coach Steven Schumacher piling the praise on the loanee last month, saying:

“They (Brighton) are really pleased with his progress. He had a loan last year that was OK at Blackburn, it didn’t go unbelievably well but it was experience in the Championship.

“This year where he’s playing every week, he’s becoming the main man, he’s scoring goals for us.

“That’s what Brighton needed from us, to give him that opportunity to shine, and he’s getting that.”

Goodman Issues Cozier-Duberry Prediction

With form continuing to shine, EFL pundit Don Goodman believes this is posing parent club Brighton a dilemma. Whilst he is shining in League One, the Seagulls could be tempted to recall their player and send him to the Championship for the second half of the campaign.

This was seen last season with Louie Barry when Aston Villa opted to cut short a season-long deal at Stockport County. However, a move to Hull City backfired when the winger’s campaign was cut short due to injury.

Speaking to Football League WorldGoodman believes this will come into Brighton’s thinking:

“I suppose it all depends upon the terms of the loan deal, if there’s a call-back clause, but you never know Brighton might feel he’s at the right club and at the right level to keep developing.

“If he stays in League One, scores another five goals and gets another five assists in the second half of the season, then it can only be good for his confidence.

“The alternative is, like we saw with Louie Barry last season, that a club calls him back, loans him out to a slightly higher level, and it doesn’t work out, so it’s a little bit of a dilemma.

“As a player, you will always want to play at the highest level, so if Cozier-Duberry gets the opportunity to go to a decent Championship club, then you would imagine it would be difficult to turn that down.”

Cozier-Duberry is expected to start this afternoon when Bolton take on Port Vale in a game that could see them move into the play-off positions with a win.
