Alex Rodriguez Gorrin has been speaking about his reasons for signing for Oxford United.
The twenty-five-year-old Spaniard has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the U’s with the option of a further year amid interest from several clubs and said it was the belief in him showed by the club that swayed his decision.
The midfielder told the Oxford Mail: “There were a couple of interested clubs, but Oxford were there from the start.’
‘They showed a lot of interest and belief.’
‘I think it’s a great option for me and I think it’s the perfect place to keep improving – I’m very excited.’
The former Sunderland youth player was out of contract at Fir Park after making twenty-five appearances in all competitions last season. He especially impressed with his ability to break up play in midfield, and it was rumoured both Portsmouth and Ipswich were chasing his signature.
A delighted Oxford boss Karl Robinson commented on the exciting new signing to the club’s official website: ‘There was a fair amount of interest from a lot of clubs.’
‘That doesn’t surprise me because he was highly impressive last season and really caught the eye. He is a real competitor and a terrific athlete. He loves a challenge, is a good tackler and we think will be a very good player for us.’
Our view
A real coup for Oxford United, Gorrin is an excellent player who looks set to shine in League One next season.
His ability to intercept and break up play would be a real asset to Karl Robinson’s midfield.
Oxford fans should be rightly excited to beat other clubs to land his services.
