Blackpool linked with 24-year-old winger

Blackpool have been linked with Ben Tollitt the recently released Tranmere Rovers winger.

Journalist Alan Nixon has tweeted that Tollitt is set to be the Tangerines next signing following the capture of former Carlisle midfielder Jamie Devitt yesterday (20/619).

The twenty-four-year-old winger signed for Tranmere in the summer of 2016 from Portsmouth on a three -year contract but has struggled to hold down a first-team place in Birkenhead making thirty-four league appearances in his three-year spell.

He spent part of last season on loan at Wrexham in the National league and scoring four times for the Red Dragons in thirteen outings.

It was an impressive spell but not good enough to earn the winger a new deal at Prenton Park, and the link with Blackpool is longstanding with EFL newcomers Salford City also thought to be eyeing a move for the 6ft 2in winger at one stage.

If Nixon is accurate, it now looks like Blackpool are on the verge of signing the former Everton trainee.

Our View

Perhaps not one to set the pulses racing of Blackpool fans but Tollitt seemed to have turned a corner at Wrexham with his displays in the second half of last season.

He has undoubted potential and will be hoping to push on at Blackpool in what is a new and exciting era for the club.

He may turn out to be a squad player, but at twenty-four, he still has it all to prove, and if he comes good it may well be an astute piece of business by the Seasiders.
