Bolton Wanderers have confirmed their current contracted players in an announcement on the club’s official website.
The published list totals just fourteen professionals and third-year scholars.
The newsΒ comes amidst continued turmoil off the pitch with reports that any potential bidders for the club had to submit takeover bids by 4 pm yesterday (12/6/19) with a view to signing an agreement on Friday.
Bolton have been in a state of limbo during the protracted takeover negotiations, andΒ Joint administrator Paul Appleton was hoping to add some urgency into the process to enable the club to move on and start preparing for next season.
Wanderers went into administration at the end of a depressing 2018/19 season which saw problems on and off the field and culminated in relegation from the Championship.
The High Court recently suspended a winding-up petition against the club over an outstanding Β£1.2 million tax bill, and an emergency food bank was set up to help out the unpaid staff.
Administration means the club are set to start next season in League One with a twelve pointΒ deduction and the announcementΒ of a current squad of fourteen players did nothing to lift the mood of long-suffering Bolton fans who soon took to social media to reflect on the news with many predicting another relegation battle next season.
Here is a selection of their responses on Twitter.
