Gillingham in the race to sign 22-goal promotion-winning forward

Gillingham are keen on MK Dons forward Kieran Agard as reported by the Mirror

The twenty-nine-year-old has been offered a new contract to stay in Milton Keynes after he scored twenty-two goals to help MK Dons win promotion from League Two in 2018/19.

The former Bristol City forward is likely to have several options as he decides on his future but with MK Dons recently signing forwards Jordan Bowery and Joe Mason a move away from Stadium Mk seems likely and according to the Mirror, Gillingham are very much in the race to sign the striker.

Since the appointment of Steve Evans Gillingham have been active in the market, recently signing former Premier League midfielder Stuart O’Keefe and Northern Ireland international defender Lee Hodson.

Evans has worked with Agard before, the striker scoring twenty-six goals in Rotherham’s League One promotion campaign in 2013/14.

A quality striker is believed to be a priority for Evans with last seasons top scorer Tom Eaves the subject of speculation linking him with a move away from Priestfield.

Our View

Gillingham fans will be delighted if Agard makes a move to Kent.

He is a proven goalscorer and will soften the blow of a potential Eaves exit.

Not surprisingly, the appointment of Evans is leading to a hectic summer for the Gills as they look to re-shape a squad that flirted with relegation for much of last season.

MK Dons fans will be concerned, Bowery and Mason are not in Agard’s class, and if he does go, they will be hoping Tisdale has a proven goalscorer up his sleeve to replace him.
