The red-hot favourite is Richie Wellens, the former Doncaster midfielder out of work since leaving Oldham Athletic.
The 38-year old saw the Latics relegated during his only spell as a manager, which might not fill Swindon fans with enthusiasm, but if his playing style could transfer over to management they’d be laughing.
Wellens was a tough, uncompromising midfielder, but the lack of experience would surely be a concern for those long-suffering fans. However, if the bookies are to be believed, he’s close to being appointed.
