Raid Planned: West Bromwich Albion Target European International For January Switch

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly interested in midfielder Glen Kamara as they plan their January window.

The Baggies have not had the best of starts to the campaign under new boss Ryan Mason, who has been under some scrutiny after a string of poor performances. The former Hull City man will hope he can get more points on the board as they face league leaders and West Midlands rivals Coventry City.

Former Leeds Man On Radar

According to reports in France, Glen Kamara could be a name which Albion consider a move for in January, as he faces exile at current club Stade Rennais. He has played just 19 minutes this season for the Ligue 1 side, against Toulouse, since returning from a half-season loan at Saudi side Al-Shabab.

Kamara is no stranger to the EFL, having played a starring role in Leeds United‘s 2023/24 season, which ended in them falling short in the playoff final to Southampton. He is perhaps best remembered at Rangers, however, winning the Premiership and Scottish FA Cup with Steven Gerrard at the helm at Ibrox.

Jeunes Footeux state that the Baggies are ‘seriously interested’ in a return for Kamara, having previously shown interest in the Finnish international back in the summer. It is reported that the midfielder would come to the Hawthorns on loan, but a permanent move could also be considered with a €3 million (£2.64 million) fee.

West Brom are well stocked in the middle of the pitch, with Jayson Molumby, Alex Mowatt and Ousmane Diakite all battling for regular game time. Manchester United prospect Toby Collyer was also signed on loan, but has largely struggled for minutes under Mason.

Is A Move For Kamara Possible?

With a significant salary and fee reported by Jeunes Footeux, it may not be a great deal to make for Glen Kamara. West Bromwich Albion also look strong in the middle of the pitch, and unless they offload one of their current players, it is hard to see where he could fit into the squad.

Nevertheless, Kamara was a brilliant player for Leeds 2 seasons ago, and alongside Ilia Gruev formed a very strong partnership. While the following years have not been the best for the 30-year-old, a return to the British Isles could see that form he showed at Elland Road and Ibrox return, which any team would be lucky to have.
