Championship leaders Coventry City play host to Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion in front of the Sky Sports cameras in the second tier on Saturday lunchtime.
Our Three Predictions for Coventry City vs West Bromwich Albion
- First Prediction: Coventry City to win – 3/4
- Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 1/4
- Third Prediction: Both teams to score – no – 1/1
First Prediction for Coventry City vs West Bromwich Albion – Coventry City to win – 3/4
It’s clear to see why the side at the top of the table are being backed to win this clash on home soil. They have the joint-best home record in the league and, since being beaten away at Wrexham, have bounced back to win back-to-back games.
Although Albion won their final game before the international break, 2-1 at home to Oxford United, the fact that they were winless in four games before that, mixed with how good Coventry have been this season, doesn’t do West Brom’s chances of picking up three points away from home any good.
Whilst the hosts have won the majority of their games so far this season, winning 10 of 15, WBA have won six, three of which have come on the road. None of these three, however, have come in the last month and a half, with the side not winning in either of their last four consecutive away games.
Whilst West Brom are a good side on their day, they may be outclassed by Frank Lampard’s outstanding Coventry side.

Second Prediction for Coventry City vs West Bromwich Albion – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 1/4
One reason why the hosts are doing as well as they are this season is because of their ability to score goals. The side have scored 40 goals in 15 games, and have two players in the top five goalscorers in the division, Brandon Thomas-Asante, the joint top-scorer with 10 goals, and Haji Wright, the second highest with eight goals.
The fact that they’ve scored 14 more goals than any other side in the division is quite frankly insane, and equates to an average of 2.67 goals scored per game.
Whilst the away side have a strong defensive record, only conceding 16 goals in 15 games, they have conceded five in their last five, which is, on average, one goal conceded per game.
In their last five games alone, Lampard’s side have netted 11 goals, suggesting that this clash will be another game that is high-scoring.
Third Prediction for Coventry City vs West Bromwich Albion – Both teams to score – no – 1/1
Contrary to my other point, with Coventry’s defensive record being as good as it is, and with West Brom not being able to find the back of the net in a fair few games this season, it will be surprising if the away side does score.
Ryan Mason’s side have scored just seven times on the road in eight games, whilst conceding 11 goals.
With Lampard’s sides’ impressive goal-scoring record, it wouldn’t be surprising if the hosts kept a clean sheet at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
As mentioned above, the Sky Blues come into this game on top form, and as a result sit top of the table in the second tier, five points clear of second-placed Middlesbrough. Whilst West Brom haven’t been great in recent weeks, they picked up their first win in four games with a 2-1 win over Oxford before the international break.
Whilst Coventry need to continue their winning run to extend their lead at the top of the table further, with the Championship so close and tight at the moment, three points could also prove crucial to the away side, and potentially be enough to launch them up into the play-off spots, depending on other results around the grounds.
Since 2018, these sides have met each other nine times in all competitions, eight of which have come in the Championship. Interestingly, West Brom have won six of these ties, Coventry winning two, whilst only one game has ended in a draw. The last time these sides met was last season, Coventry winning at home thanks to goals from Jack Rudoni and Matt Grimes.
