Peterborough United have tied down emerging striker David Kamara to a long-term deal after the 19-year-old completed a remarkable transformation from raw talent to an increasingly polished goalscorer.
Peterborough United have moved quickly to secure the future of promising forward David Kamara, with the teenager signing a new long-term contract following significant progress since joining from Welling United in June 2024.
The club view the deal as a major step in developing an attacker who has impressed coaches with his attitude, work rate and rapid technical improvement.
From Unrefined Runner To Structured Finisher
Kamara made his senior debut earlier this season, appearing in a 3-0 defeat to Exeter City in August. Injuries have limited his involvement, yet his development behind the scenes has been so strong that the club consider him central to their longer-term plans.

Those steps forward were highlighted this week when he scored 2 goals for the club’s under-21 side in a 5-0 win against Crewe Alexandra at the Weston Homes Stadium on the same day he signed his new contract.
The striker acknowledged that he arrived at London Road with raw potential rather than polish. He said:
“When I first joined, I was running all over the place without real control. I now feel that I am improving in every part of my game and I cannot thank the coaches enough.”
Kamara described his second goal against Crewe as the best finish of his career and stressed his desire to keep growing, adding:
“I want to score more number 9 goals around the 6-yard box and keep helping the team. I am also looking forward to getting more experience on loan.”

Loan Move Expected As Posh Look To Shape His Next Step
The club expect Kamara to continue his development with a loan spell away from London Road later this season.
His physicality, movement and growing confidence in front of goal have impressed the coaching staff, who believe regular senior football could accelerate his progress.
Under-21 head coach Sam Gaughran praised the forward for his mentality, consistency and response to injury setbacks. He said:
“David has shown outstanding attitude every day. He deserves this new contract completely.”
Striker David Kamara has joined Kings Lynn Town on-loan for an initial one-month and goes straight into the Linnets side for Saturday’s game with Scunthorpe United in the Emirates FA Cup.

The deal marks another example of Peterborough United’s strategy of identifying young talent, developing it internally and providing clear pathways into senior football. Kamara’s progress reflects that philosophy, and the club believe he has the potential to play a major role in future first-team plans once he completes the next phase of his learning.
For now, the teenager has taken a significant step forward in his career. A year after arriving as a raw runner, he is now a striker with structure, confidence and growing belief, backed by a club with a long-term plan for his development.
