Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo believes Wrexham are only scratching the surface of their potential after extending their unbeaten run to four matches in the Championship.
The newly promoted side sit 14th in the table ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Charlton Athletic, marking another milestone in their remarkable climb from the National League to the second tier in just 3 seasons.
Under Phil Parkinson, the club have stabilised after a shaky start and are now beginning to look at home in the Championship.
Okonkwo confident of further progress
The 23-year-old shot-stopper, who joined Wrexham in the summer after leaving Arsenal, says he and his teammates believe there’s much more to come from this group.
Speaking ahead of the weekend fixture, Okonkwo described the squad as “a work in progress” but one capable of reaching new heights.
“We definitely belong in this level and I do believe we have another step,” said Okonkwo. “We just need to show it, but that takes time. We have a new team, we’re all adapting. I think our performances are getting better, people can see that, so we just have to keep going.”
He added that the side’s growing consistency has been a huge positive, saying: “It’s good to see how our consistency is coming through and how good we are.”
Okonkwo’s comments reflect a wider sense of belief around the Racecourse Ground. Following the ownership group’s long-term investment and the backing of the fanbase, Wrexham’s rise from non-league to the Championship has become one of football’s most remarkable modern success stories.
Congratulations to Arthur Okonkwo, who has won the @PFA Fans’ League One Player of the Month award for March 👊

Resilience on display at Fratton Park
The Reds’ most recent outing, a hard-fought 0-0 draw away to Portsmouth, showcased the team’s defensive improvement. While Pompey dominated for large spells and created several chances, Wrexham held firm thanks to an inspired display from Okonkwo and a disciplined back line.
“We wanted to come here and win, so it’s always a bit disappointing when you don’t,” Okonkwo admitted. “But with the way the game went and how they pressed us, I think 0-0 is a fair result. We can be pleased with the way we defended and in the end, I’m happy with the result.”
The shutout at Fratton Park means Wrexham have now conceded only 2 goals in their last 4 matches, a stark improvement from the defensive lapses that marked their early Championship performances. As they continue to adapt to the division’s pace and intensity, the signs are increasingly promising.

With Charlton Athletic visiting the Racecourse next, Okonkwo says the focus is on maintaining the same standards. “Charlton are doing really well this season,” he said. “Everyone can see that, and we’re all looking forward to it.”
After three promotions and a strong start to life in the Championship, Wrexham’s fairytale is still unfolding — and if Okonkwo’s words are any indication, there may be another chapter of progress yet to come.
