Decision Made: Chris Wilder Set For Major Sheffield United Transfer Call

Chris Wilder is set to terminate the loan moves of Sheffield United outcasts Louie Barry, Tyler Bindon and Ben Godfrey in January, according to a report.

It has been a very disappointing start to the season for the Blades, who find themselves languishing in the Championship’s relegation zone, having sacked Ruben Selles for a horrific series of performances to begin the campaign. Wilder, who was removed in the wake of their playoff final loss to Sunderland, was brought back in late September.

Barry, Bindon And Godfrey Gone

However, the decision to bring back Wilder has seen a major shift in which players are picked to start games, and perhaps the biggest loser in the shakeup was Louie Barry, brought in on loan from Aston Villa as a result of his 18-month spell at Stockport County. He has played just 92 minutes of football since Wilder’s return, and failed to make the matchday squads in their past 2 matches.

Now, according to Football League World, Barry, along with two other loanees, will be sent packing when the transfer window reopens in the New Year as the Blades’ boss looks to trim his squad and improve their situation. Tyler Bindon and Ben Godfrey are also facing the axe, on loan from Nottingham Forest and Atalanta, respectively.

Godfrey has been missing from many senior matchday squads, but recently played alongside Barry in the Under-21s against Wigan Athletic on Friday, the same day as their most recent match against Coventry City. Wilder has been tight-lipped about what has kept the former Norwich City man out of his plans as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

Bindon meanwhile has failed to break through in the Championship following his impressive season at Reading, but has repeatedly made the matchday squads without seeing any game time and has not seen action in United’s last 9 league matches.

The expected exits of Bindon and Godfrey will leave the squad short in the central defensive position heading into January, meaning some action could be seen in the market to replace those figures.

More Signs Of Selles’ Failings

The decision to get rid of some of Ruben Selles’ summer signings is yet another indicator that the Blades got it wrong to appoint the Spaniard. Of all of his signings, very few if any have hit the ground running and it has been players signed under Wilder that have seen the best results, such as Callum O’Hare.

It is now up to the man who brought them from League One to pushing for European football to save the club from embarrassment, and the next few months and his actions during the transfer window may prove vital in avoiding relegation this season.
