Stockport County vs Luton Town: Prediction, Lineups, Betting Tips & Odds (08/11)

High-flying Stockport County play host to Jack Wilshere’s Luton Town side on Saturday in Sky Bet League One at Edgeley Park.

Our Three Predictions for Stockport County vs Luton Town

  • First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 11/5
  • Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 4/11
  • Third Prediction: Both teams to score – 5/6

First Prediction for Stockport County vs Luton Town – Match to end in a draw – 11/5

Whilst this prediction may come as a surprise to the majority, there are reasons why this may prove to be a tough game for the side who are top of the league, especially with their home record being weirdly worse than their record away from home.

After the disappointment of missing out on promotion last season, it’s no secret that Stockport are one of the many sides backed to win promotion this season, but Luton, under new manager Jack Wilshire, have started life well, winning three of their four games so far. On top of this, seasonally, their away record has been better than their home record, much like their hosts for this one.

On the road, Luton have won 10 points out of a possible 21, which is the joint-fourth best record in the division. This is similar to their hosts, who have won half their points on their travels, only winning four of their seven games at home, which, for a side that’s top of the league, isn’t the best record.

With their new manager, Luton will prove no easy feat for Stockport, and we could well see a stalemate at Edgeley Park on Saturday.

Second Prediction for Stockport County vs Luton Town – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 4/11

Neither side have had problems scoring goals this season, the hosts are one of the highest scorers in the league, scoring 22 goals in 14 games. This record is only bettered by second-placed Bradford City, who have scored 23 goals, one more than Dave Challinor’s side. Whilst Luton’s record isn’t as good as their hosts, since new manager Wilshere took over, the side have scored eight goals in their last three games alone, including four last weekend in the FA Cup.

In addition to this, the away side tend to both score and concede more goals on their travels, 10 of their 15 goals scored coming away from home, and nine of their 15 goals conceded coming on the road.

Their league record warrants an average of one goal scored per game, whilst Stockport’s record stands at 1.79 goals scored per game. In their last five games alone, they have scored nine times, including six goals in their last two games.

Whilst neither side have an awful defensive record, they certainly aren’t the best defence in the league, that honour goes to Stevenage, who have only conceded 10 goals in 12 games. This isn’t far off either side, Stockport conceding 14 times and Luton conceding 15 times, which is on average, for both sides, is an average above one goal conceded per game.

With both sides’ current records, it would not be surprising if this game at Edgeley Park is relatively high-scoring.

Third Prediction for Stockport County vs Luton Town – Both teams to score – 5/6

To reiterate the last point, the hosts have scored in every single game they’ve played in League One so far, which is one of the reasons they are flying in the league, whilst Luton have failed to score once since their new manager took over at the club.

On top of this, defensively, the hosts have conceded five in their last five, whilst Luton have conceded nine.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both sides come into this game in decent form. Stockport are sat at the top of the league after winning their last four games on the spin, whilst new manager Wilshere has overseen just one loss and three wins from his opening four games in charge at Kenilworth Road.

Three points in this clash could prove crucial for both sides, the hosts looking to regain top spot from the chasing pack below, whilst the away side are only six points and four places off sixth-placed AFC Wimbledon, who retain that last play-off spot.

This is the first EFL meeting between the two sides since 2004; the teams have met four times since then in the National League. Luton have won three of these four games, with the other one ending level after 90 minutes. Last time these sides met was in 2013, Steve McNulty’s first-half strike enough to give Luton all three points, with Stockport suffering relegation to the National League North that season.
