Sheffield Wednesday Receive Huge Transfer Boost

Sheffield Wednesday have seemingly received a huge boost after reports emerged claiming that former manager Danny Rohl has no intention of raiding his former club in January.

After years of uncertainty, transfer embargoes, point deductions and unpaid wages, there is a renewed sense of optimism around Hillsborough that has not been seen for some time. Whilst the administrators are in, previous owner Dejphon Chansiri is gone and a series of prospective buyers are said to be interested in acquiring the club.

The Owls received a 12-point deduction last week as a result of going into administration. Although they are now 16 points from safety, relegation is viewed as an opportunity to rebuild from the ground up.

Rohl Linked With Former Players

Whilst all this played out, former boss Danny Rohl landed his first position since departing Yorkshire with Rangers. The Scottish giants have endured a nightmare start to the campaign, having appointed former Southampton manager Russell Martin in the summer.

The appointment of the 39-year-old quickly turned into an absolute disaster. Four months to the day after his arrival, he was cast aside with the club languishing in the bottom half of the table.

A number of names then ruled themselves out of the position, including Rohl, Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat. However, the German had a change of heart and made the move to Ibrox earlier this month.

It was no surprise to see reports almost immediately emerge claiming that he had set his sights on his former employers. One name who was linked as a target was 20-year-old striker Bailey Cadamarteri.

Sheffield Wednesday To Breathe Sigh Of Relief

Although a huge weight has been lifted off their shoulders, Wednesday still possess a threadbare squad and remain under a transfer embargo. As a result, the last thing they need is having to contend with other clubs targeting the players they do have on their books.

Despite the links, it appears as if Rohl has no intention of heading that charge. Speaking on The Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke explained:

Yeah, that’s an opportunity for a lot of clubs if they want to sign any players from Sheffield Wednesday with the ongoing financial issues.

“The other thing is when you look at the Sheffield Wednesday squad, it’s very threadbare as well. So maybe that would reduce the options for anybody that Danny Rohl will be interested in.

“So I don’t think it’d be a priority for him right now to go back and maybe sign some players from Sheffield Wednesday.

“The main focus is for Sheffield Wednesday is now to find new owners and then hopefully they’ll be able to invest in the squad and strengthen it.

“But yeah, I think the squad is obviously very stretched at minute at Wednesday and a lot of young players as well in that squad that they’ve needed to play because the squad is so thin.

“So Danny Rohl will be looking elsewhere if he is to strengthen that Rangers squad in January.”

Sheffield Wednesday return to action tomorrow lunchtime when they travel to West Bromwich Albion.
