Sheffield United are weighing up a January move to re-sign Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury after his influential loan spell at Bramall Lane last season.
The 28-year-old has forced his way back into the Foxes’ first-team picture, but Chris Wilder is understood to be monitoring his situation closely ahead of the winter window.
Blades eye January reinforcement
Sheffield United are looking to strengthen their midfield as they battle near the foot of the Championship table. Wilder’s side sit just 1 point from safety after a difficult start, and the manager is said to view Hamza Choudhury as a proven option who could add energy and defensive stability in the middle of the park.

The midfielder made 19 appearances for the Blades during the second half of last season, helping them reach the play-off final where they fell to Sunderland. His leadership and work rate earned praise from the coaching staff, and Wilder has remained a long-term admirer of the player’s combative qualities.
Choudhury returned to Leicester in the summer and, under new head coach Martí Cifuentes, has appeared 9 times so far this season, including 8 league outings. Despite being back in favour, Leicester’s midfield depth could open the door to another move if the right offer arrives.

Contract security but growing interest
The Foxes tied Hamza Choudhury to a new deal running until June 2027, meaning Leicester City are under no pressure to sell. However, sources close to the player suggest he remains open to regular football elsewhere if his role diminishes as the campaign progresses.
Choudhury has spent his entire senior career with Leicester, breaking through in 2017 and amassing more than 140 appearances across all competitions. He has also had productive loan stints with Burton Albion, Watford, and last term with Sheffield United, giving him a wealth of EFL experience.

The Blades’ immediate focus remains on climbing the table after a 3-2 defeat at Preston North End, but Wilder is already planning for the new year. Choudhury’s versatility—capable of operating as a holding midfielder or even at right-back—adds to his appeal as United seek to stabilise their form and avoid another relegation battle.
Will Choudhury make the Blades move?
A deal would depend on whether Leicester City are willing to sanction another loan or permanent transfer midway through the season. With the Foxes chasing a Premier League return, Martí Cifuentes may be reluctant to lose depth in a congested fixture period.
For Sheffield United, though, reuniting with a player who already understands Wilder’s system could prove crucial. His aggression, discipline, and leadership were evident during last year’s run to Wembley, and supporters would welcome his return as the club look to turn around their fortunes heading into 2025.
