Our 3 predictions for Swansea City vs Manchester City

  • 1st prediction: Manchester City to win
  • 2nd prediction: Over 2.5 goals in the game
  • 3rd prediction: Both teams to score – No

1st prediction for Swansea City vs Manchester City: Manchester City to win – 1/5

This is a huge game in the Carabao Cup, especially for Swansea City. Chances to host a world class  Premier League side are rare, so the Swans will be relishing this game. That being said, they are heavy underdogs despite home advantage. Their Championship start has been inconsistent at best ad they sit in mid-table, so will really need to be at the top of their game here. As well as this, City will need to rest players and still have an off day for any chance of an upset. That is unlikely though, with City seemingly back to their best after a rough spell last season, and with Erling Haaland in scary form up front. Even if they rotate they will have world class players at their disposal and will see this as a realistic chance for silverware, so expect them to come out fighting and probably blow their opponents away.

2nd prediction for Swansea City vs Manchester City: Over 2.5 goals in the game – 4/9

This is likely to be an incredibly one sided game should it go as many are expecting, with likely goals galore for the away side. That being said, Alan Sheehan will want his side to stay in the game so they will make it difficult for City to start, but once one goal goes in the floodgates will open. Swansea’s inconsistent form again works against them here, but we’ve seen strange things happen in the cup. City will dominate and create plenty of chances, the number scored will just depend on how clinical they are and Swansea’s defending. This will be the basis of Swansea’s approach for the game, and they will hope for something on the break or at a set piece. All the factors point towards a high scoring cup encounter, making for a fascinating midweek match-up.

3rd prediction for Swansea City vs Manchester City: Both teams to score – No – 4/5

This is a prediction which leads on from the previous one. Swansea look pretty decent at the back while being decent going forward, but these factors go out of the window when facing a side as good as Manchester City. The home side have the advantage of having beaten Premier League sides in previous rounds of the competition, as well as home advantage, which may work in their favour though it is unlikely. They will hope for an early goal and to hold out for the rest of the game, and will use the crowd to their advantage. The away side have started the season in fantastic form and are challenging near the top of the Premier League, and if they carry that form into this game it will be a very one-sided affair.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head

This is a massive game at this stage of the cup. Both sides have done well so far this season and have been strong in the cup so far, and will want to continue their run with a win here. A Swansea win would be a huge scalp as well as a chance for them to kickstart their league season, so there’s more than one motivation here. For City, it represents a genuine chance of silverware after a dry spell last season, with Pep Guardiola’s side seemingly back on top form.. All things considered, this is a fascinating match up.
