Norwich City Boss Adresses Relegation Fears As Sacking Talk Continues

Liam Manning is not fearing a potential relegation for Norwich City as his short-term future remains in the spotlight.

Poor performances throughout the season has seen the Canaries falter into a very precarious position a quarter of the way through the Championship fixture list. With 5 losses from as many games, City have the worst form in all of the English Football League, which has led to discontent throughout the fanbase in Norfolk.

Manning Confident Despite Speculation

With rumours frequently circulating about whether Manning will get the boot, Norwich’s American owners came to the UK in a show of support for their manager, reaffirming their commitment to the ex-Bristol City boss. Heading into their next league game in 23rd place, conversation has now turned as to whether there will be a relegation battle at Carrow Road this season.

Speaking to the Pink’Un about the potential of a return to League One for the first time since 2009, Manning remained steadfast that Norwich will not go down.

“I’m quite clear – we have to win games.

“It’s not nice seeing it, not nice being in the position we’re in. I’ve never shied away from that fact, we’ll always step up and take responsibility for it. But when I see what I’ve seen in recent weeks, I believe in the group.

“I believe that if the lads step up and take responsibility – I came for them a little bit after the Bristol City game and against Derby County I thought they did – that’s the bit that will change it. That’s the bit that will get us the wins.”

Can Manning Get City Going?

It is now up to the 40-year-old to galvanise his players heading into their upcoming match against Hull City, who have had a bright start to the season compared to their pre-season expectations. Not helping Manning is the injury crisis he faces, with 9 players out for the upcoming fixture, including Ante Crnac, who damaged his Anterior Cruciate Ligament and will play no further part in the season.

Norwich’s performances have been torrid throughout the campaign and there has been little to shout about, so something needs to change now for their manager to keep their job. Key injuries in the Hull squad may help them but ultimately, this is a pivotal game before fan anger threatens to boil over.
