Our Three Predictions For Oldham Athletic vs Barrow AFC

  • Prediction 1 – Michael Mellon To Score – 11/6
  • Prediction 2 – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 4/6
  • Prediction 3 – Match To End In A Draw – 5/2

First Prediction For Oldham Athletic vs Barrow AFC – Michael Mellon To Score – 11/6

With no standout scorers on either side so far this season, it is fairly hard to pick someone who might make the difference in this match. However, one good choice could be Oldham’s Mickey Mellon, who leads the Latics in goals scored so far in the league. Joining later than most of his teammates this season, Mellon already has three goals to his name and looks comfortable up top with Joe Quigley beside him. He’s scored in his last two matches, against Notts County and Barnet and crucially is fully rested for this match after his manager – and father – did not include him in the squad that faced Rotherham United in the EFL Trophy.

Second Prediction For Oldham Athletic vs Barrow AFC – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 4/6

Neither of these sides have been particularly prolific so far this campaign, which may mean not many goals will be scored in this contest. Both have averaged under one goal per game in League Two this season, and Oldham have only found the net more than once in the fourth division this season in their away win against struggling Cheltenham Town. Their opponents have fared slightly better with two results seeing them find the net multiple times, but have still struggled to find regular goals with four matches ending without the Bluebirds getting on the board.

Third Prediction For Oldham Athletic vs Barrow AFC – Match To End In A Draw – 5/2

There feels to be very little separating these sides in terms of quality, so a draw could be a likely outcome for this game. Oldham have been far from at their best when playing at Boundary Park, with just one win out of their first five contests there, while Barrow have not been particularly outstanding on their travels, despite wins at Colchester United and Crawley Town. Injuries have blighted both sides as of late, including both Tom Barkhuizen and Jack Earing in Barrow’s draw against Shrewsbury Town, while Oldham saw club captain Tom Conlon carried off by stretcher in midweek. Both teams may get on the board but the honours could very well end even.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Oldham Athletic have had a decent but unremarkable start to life back in the EFL. The Latics enter the weekend in 15th place, on 14 points, coming from three wins and five draws. A four-game unbeaten streak was broken at the weekend, with Notts County comfortably beating Mickey Mellon’s side at Meadow Lane, with Michael Mellon being the only scorer for Oldham in the 3-1 loss. It was another defeat in the EFL Trophy last night, with Rotherham United turning around a 2-0 deficit to win in South Yorkshire. However, the big headline from that game was an injury to club captain Tom Conlon, who was stretchered off the field. Mellon stated that the injury was not as worse as first feared, but the former Port Vale man is still set for a lengthy layoff.

Barrow, meanwhile, sit one point behind their hosts this weekend, with three wins and five draws from their opening 11 matches. Barrow, despite their low positioning, hold the joint-best defensive record in the fourth tier this season, level with Walsall in letting in nine goals so far this campaign. It was a goalless draw last time out for Andy Whing’s side, in a drab affair at Holker Street to strugglers Shrewsbury Town. That result extends their unbeaten run to three games in League Two, but were also bested in midweek against Tranmere Rovers.

Prior to Oldham’s relegation into non-league, these sides have played each other four times in League Two. There has never been a home win for a side in those games, with two away wins for Barrow at Boundary Park, while it was Oldham who secured a win in their first ever contest in 2020. The most recent tie in 2021 ended as a goalless draw.
