Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Crawley Town find themselves occupying 21st in League Two and just two points above the drop zone having taken eight points from their opening 11 matches. The Reds have won two and lost three of their last five league outings, though they have been defeated in each of their last three matches.

The run began with a 1-0 away win at Harrogate Town thanks to a Reece Brown strike and continued with a 2-0 win over struggling Cheltenham Town with Harry McKirdy grabbing a brace. After beating Aston Villa’s youngsters in the Vertu Trophy, Crawley made the trip to Notts County looking for a fourth straight win in all competitions and a fifth game unbeaten. County had other ideas and, after going in at half time one goal up, ran riot in the final 20 minutes to end the match as 4-0 winners.

Barrow were next up at Broadfield Stadium and were 2-0 to the good at half time thanks to Josh Gordon and Isaac Fletcher before Geraldo Bajrami pulled a goal back for the hosts. Last time out, Cambridge United inflicted a third straight defeat on Scott Lindsey’s side, enough to force the manager to call his players ‘weak’. The hosts raced into a 3-0 lead before Kabongo Tshimanga scored a 66th minute consolation for the Reds.

Crawley have scored nine goals this season, an average of 0.8 per game, with Harry McKirdy leading the way on four and Dion Pereira providing three assists. Defensively, Lindsey’s side have conceded 20 times at an average of 1.8 per match and have managed to keep just two clean sheets.

Walsall currently sit top of League Two, a point ahead of second placed Swindon Town having collected 25 points from their opening 11 matches. The Saddlers have lost just twice in the league this season and are unbeaten in their last seven, winning four of the last five.

That run began with a home victory over Chesterfield thanks to a first half Daniel Kanu strike and was earned despite playing the final 25 minutes with ten men following Charlie Lakin’s dismissal. Kanu was again on the scoresheet when Walsall travelled travelled to Lancashire to face Fleetwood Town and his goal cancelled out an early opener for the hosts to secure a point.

Tranmere Rovers were next up at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium where they came up against an in-form Evan Weir. The 23-year-old bagged a brace to give the Saddlers a 2-1 half time lead before Kanu struck again and Albert Adomah got a fourth late on to secure all three points and a 4-2 win. The veteran Adomah scored again in the trip to Accrington Stanley to make it 3-1 after Aden Flint and Aaron Pressley gave Walsall a two goal advantage.

Last time out, their unbeaten run looked to be in danger when visitors Bristol Rovers were in front as the second half ticked on. Up stepped Aaron Pressley to score twice in nine minutes to turn the game on its head and keep his side top of the table.

Walsall have scored 17 times so far this season at an average of 1.5 per game with Aaron Pressley the top scorer on four and Courtney Clarke leading the assists chart with three. Mat Sadler’s side have the joint best defensive record in the league, conceding just nine goals at an average of 0.8 per match but have managed just three clean sheets.

In the last ten meetings between these sides, Walsall have won four to Crawley’s one and their have been five draws. The most recent meetings came in the 2023-24 season, one that would end in a surprise promotion for Crawley Town via the playoffs. Both encounters ended with the sides sharing the spoils and both finished with a 1-1 scoreline.

The contest at the Bescot ended in dramatic fashion with two late goals. Danny Johnson looked to have snatched all three points for the hosts in the 88th minute only for Danilo Orsi to equalise in the fourth minute of added time. In the reverse fixture in West Sussex, Isaac Hutchinson gave Walsall the lead from the spot before Liam Kelly equalised just after the hour.

The last time one of these sides managed to get the better of the other came in November 2022 when it was Walsall who edged their opponents by two goals to one in another dramatic meeting. Crawley were in desperate need of points in their battle to avoid dropping to the National League and, despite playing the entire second half a man down, looked to have secured a valuable point on the road only for Danny Johnson to break their hearts in the 92nd minute.

Crawley’s only win in the last ten meetings came thanks to Isaac Hutchinson, the same who would score for Walsall in this fixture, who got the only goal of the April 2022 meeting. In those ten meetings, Crawley have scored nine times and Walsall have hit the net on 12 occasions.
