Our Three Predictions For Wigan Athletic v Wycombe Wanderers

Prediction 1 – Match To End In A Draw – 11/5

Prediction 2 – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 4/6

Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 9/10

First Prediction For Wigan Athletic v Wycombe Wanderers – Match To End In A Draw – 11/5

The two sides met recently in the League Cup, and it was Wycombe Wanderers that came out on top with a 2-0 win. The League One form has been a little different and even though that win did lift Wycombe a little, they are still struggling to find any kind of consistency. On the road they only have one point from five games, and part of the reason they are so low in the table. If they cannot find a win here at Wigan Athletic they will start to be cut adrift. The home side is showing decent form on their own patch with just one defeat, but are also very hot and cold overall. On balance a draw looks to be a fair bet as Wigan have four so far, with Wycombe three, and with both searching for any kind of foothold this could be another stalemate.

Second Prediction For Wigan Athletic v Wycombe Wanderers – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 4/6

The teams are fairly level where goals are concerned, and the nature of their play means neither really gets overrun. Wigan have scored 15 times in total, with 9 at home, so over a goal a game. At the back they are quite tight at home with just four let in, but overall 16 have been conceded, so definitely a home advantage type of side so far. Wycombe do not travel well, having yet to win, but the goals are not flying in with just 8 conceded and four scored themselves. This leans to a tight game, especially as both are looking for points without being too reckless in their pursuit of them.

Third Prediction For Wigan Athletic v Wycombe Wanderers – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 9/10

Having seen that this could be a tight game with both wanting to keep things tight, they do also need to show an intent of going for goals. That has been evident in the early going, with both scoring at a good rate, Wigan’s 15 just outdoing their visitors Wycombe, 13. The defence of Wigan does show they are susceptible to an open flowing game, and will encourage Wycombe going forward. But should Wanderers venture too far they also will feel the sharp end of a good Wigan strike force. It does look like goals will be in the game, but do not expect too many.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

A Scottish tandem is leading the way so far for Wigan Athletic. In defence the leadership of Jason Kerr is helping them along, and he has also scored once. While in attack the 26 year old Fraser Murray has lit up the scoreboard four times as well as an assist to his name. Jensen Weir is performing consistently in midfield, and at the back Kerr is being helped by Will Aimson. Boss Ryan Lowe knows his team should be a little further up the table, but if they can string some good results through October, they may start to be a threat, instead of looking over their shoulders at the lower end of the league.

Wycombe Wanderers are off to a disappointing slow start. They have been woeful on the road, and that will be addressed coming into this important clash as we near the quarter point of the season. Goals have been the main problem, and even though 11 players have managed at least one goal, only two have scored twice. Sam Bell is one and the young attacker has been one of Gareth Ainsworth’s leading lights. Luke Leahy has been solid, and with four assists in clearly a threat for any defence. Speaking of defence it is that area that needs most attention. Jack Grimmer is using all of his years of experience, and Ewan Henderson means they have a dual Scottish backbone.
