Nolan Delivers Northampton Town Injury Timeframe Following Cup Blow

Kevin Nolan has given an initial timeframe as to how long Northampton Town player Elliot List will be missing following an injury issue.

The forward was brought on at half-time in the Cobblers’ EFL Trophy group game against Walsall, but only lasted seven minutes at Bescot Stadium with a reccurence of a hamstring injury which has dogged him as of late. His last appearance for Town came in the first match of their EFL Trophy campaign against Chelsea’s academy side, which was also curtailed prematurely.

List Absence Confirmed

Speaking to the Northampton Chronicle and Echo following the result, which went in Town’s favour thanks to a Kamarai Simon-Swyer goal late on, Kevin Nolan gave his initial assessment of List’s condition. He said:

“Unfortunately Listy felt a bit tight in his hamstring so we didn’t take any risks. I think what we have to do now is go back to the drawing board and it might be a couple of weeks. We will see how he reacts and at this moment in time we aren’t taking a risk with anyone.

“We made six changes and we managed to get four of them off at half-time. It was always the plan to give some of the players 45 minutes and it was important for the others to get through 90. I’m delighted with all of the players tonight.

“We’re not favouring players and we’re asking the same from all of them. I said last season and again in pre-season that I want them to get into a Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday mentality where there’s no problems and they feel good.”

It is the latest in a brilliant string of results for the Sixfields side, now getting their seventh clean sheet in eight matches and have put themselves on the brink of the Trophy’s knockout stages should they get a point against Shrewsbury Town next month.

Writers’ View

It is yet another frustrating setback for Elliot List this season but thankfully, based on Kevin Nolan’s initial statements, it is only a short absence. Sorting out this hamstring issue is the key part now and giving the winger enough time to put this recurring issue to bed for later down the line. Nevertheless, it is a big headache to have with how versatile the former Stevenage man can be. But it will not be a major issue for Nolan to deal with, with Kamarai Simon-Swyer’s sublime finish likely to see him step up into the first team fold further.
