Standout League Two Boss Out Of Blackpool Vacancy Contention

Ian Holloway looks likely to remain at Swindon Town amid links with his former side in Blackpool.

The Tangerines, who was led by Holloway during their halcyon days in the Premier League, opted to sack Steve Bruce following a difficult start to the season, which see them second bottom in League One after 11 matches. No standout candidate has emerged with genuine interest with the role at Bloomfield Road, with most speculation coming from the bookmaking market.

Robins Boss Staying Put

In a report from the Swindon Advertiser today, it was reaffirmed that Holloway will stay at the County Ground, having no interest in the job at Blackpool or the vacancy at Luton Town, who also moved to fire Matt Bloomfield earlier this week. Holloway, who is a South West native having also managed Bristol Rovers in the past, is reportedly settled in his Wiltshire home and does not want to move again so soon.

‘Ollie’, as he is affectionately known, has led Swindon to a fine start to their League Two season, with eight wins from their opening 11 matches putting them in second place in the table and just one point behind league leaders Walsall. He arrived at the club in October of last year, pushing the club to a strong mid-table finish after a poor start to the campaign.

Holloway has spoke previously of his long-term commitment to Swindon in recent months, saying as recently as last month about his future plans are for his side going forward, and it is understood that he maintains a close relationship with club chair Clem Morfuni.

Writers’ View

It is perhaps a disappointment to Blackpool fans that Ian Holloway will not return but with how he has spoken about his time at Swindon Town so far, it is expected. The 62-year-old has thrived despite initial expectations when taking over at the County Ground and has made a squad more than capable of challenging for the League Two title this season. His relationship with Clem Morfuni is remaining strong after a brilliant start to the season, so both Blackpool and Luton will have to turn elsewhere for their vacant managerial positions.
