Newport County manager Dave Hughes believes his side will turn the corner and improve their worrying start to the League Two campaign, as reported by BBC Sport.
The Exiles have won just once all season and find themselves just a point off the bottom of League Two.
Hughes Still Believes
After arriving from Manchester United in the summer, Hughes has overseen a run of just one win in 11 games in all competitions, but he is resolutely behind what he and his coaching staff are trying to achieve.
“My belief has never waned and it won’t.”“I firmly believe in what we’re trying to do as a group of staff, in trying to create the environment we have for the players, for them to thrive and progress deliver performances that people enjoy watching and that deliver three points.”“So I’m absolutely 100% certain in what we’re trying to do, back the staff and back the players to deliver that – and firmly believe that we are not far away.”
Supporters may be concerned with how the season has started under the new boss, but Hughes has reiterated to his players that the situation is not hopeless.
“I’ve said it to the players, it’s definitely not a crisis. We’ve had some positive results, some positive performances – and in the last period some of those positive performances haven’t delivered the outcome.”

Results Keeping The Boss Awake At Night
Dave Hughes insists it is not a crisis situation at Newport County but admits his side’s current form has made it hard to sleep at night.
“Losing games really hurts, it hurts the players, hurts the staff… I haven’t been able to manage not sleeping. I’ve not been able to manage not waking up in the middle of the night thinking about how are we missing anything? Is there anything different we need to do?”“So it’s been a challenge but it’s something that we’re passionate about and that’s definitely not wavered in what’s been a tricky spell.”
The Exiles head to Chesterfield tomorrow to face another side in poor form with the Spireites without a win in their last five outings and Hughes insists there is positivity within the club.
“And there’s a belief amongst the group that if we get the next one we can build.”
Writer’s View
Newport is in desperate need of a win, and anything other than that at Chesterfield will really ramp up the pressure on the manager, particularly with high-flying Swindon Town up next. Defeat in Derbyshire could well see this situation become a crisis.
