Huddersfield Town have been rocked after it was confirmed that midfielder Herbie Kane is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
The 26-year-old started all of the Terriers’ opening eight League One games this season, scoring in the 3-2 win over Peterborough United earlier this month. However, he was a notable absentee during the weekend’s 0-0 draw against struggling Burton Albion.
Prior to the Brewers’ visit, head coach Lee Grant offered a small update on the former Barnsley star’s fitness, saying:
“We’re still looking into that and making sure we don’t take any risks. We are still being careful with it.”
Kane Set For “A Good Period” On Sidelines
Huddersfield are preparing to host Premier League giants Manchester City in the Carabao Cup third round tomorrow night. However, Kane is not a part of the squad, with the former Manchester United goalkeeper confirming the outlook doesn’t look good. Ahead of the clash, the 42-year-old said:
“We’re going to be without Herbie Kane. He will be in London today with a specialist.
“His groin injury is a lot more serious than we hoped for. It looks like we’re going to be without him for a good period
“It’s a shame for Herbie with how impressive we’ve been throughout pre-season and the early parts of the campaign.”
Meanwhile, the outlook is more positive for the versatile Ruben Rooksen, who suffered a nasty cut to the eye on Saturday:
“Ruben will be available for us. We’ve got to make sure the wound is looked after properly but aside from two nasty black eyes and a crooked nose, he’s going to be okay. No concussion or anything else sinister to worry about.
“It’s just making sure that cut is looked after properly.”
Writer’s View
This is a bitter blow for Herbie Kane, who would have been keen to take to the field against one of the best teams in the country. It’s perhaps a bigger blow for Huddersfield though, who will now be without one of their key stars for the foreseeable future. With just one point from their last two league outings, they have slipped a little in recent weeks. They still sit fifth in League One but will be mindful of last season’s collapse, where they occupied a spot in the top six for the majority of the campaign before eventually finishing 10th, 14 points off the play-off places. Of course, there’s still a long way to go and Lee Grant will be confident he has ample cover in this area.
