Barnsley To Field Championship Bids For Top Talent

Barnsley could face a fierce transfer battle in January as Championship clubs circle for striker Davis Keillor-Dunn.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form once again, and several sides are preparing to test the Tykes’ resolve. With Conor Hourihane’s side flying high, they’ll be eager to keep the jewel in their crwon for the duration of the campaign.

Championship Clubs on Alert

Barnsley rejected multiple offers for Keillor-Dunn during the summer, but fresh interest is already building ahead of the winter transfer window. According to SportsBoom, Sheffield United, Charlton Athletic and Birmingham City are among those keeping close tabs.

The Blades, who have struggled for goals this season, are particularly eager to bolster their attack, while Charlton and Birmingham are also prepared to make approaches if the forward continues his strong run. There is also potential interest from Scotland, where Keillor-Dunn began his career with Ross County.

Barnsley have a reputation as a selling club, yet sporting director Mladen Sormaz insists the valuation of their key assets remains firm. Speaking about Keillor-Dunn alongside midfielders Luca Connell and Adam Phillips, he said:

“We were never going to let them go below what we think they are valued at. The biggest bonus since Conor (Hourihane) has come in is the way he has got them playing. I think a few of them are quite a bit happier to stay here.”

One of League One’s Best

Keillor-Dunn has been a standout performer in the EFL in recent seasons. His 22 goals for Mansfield Town fired them to promotion in 2023, earning him a move to Oakwell. He followed that up with 19 goals last season, finishing as Barnsley’s Player of the Year.

This campaign has started in a similarly bright fashion, with five goals in his first nine outings, underlining why second-tier clubs are circling.

Writer’s View

Barnsley’s stance will be tested once again in January, and with Keillor-Dunn hitting consistent scoring form, interest from higher up the pyramid is inevitable. However, the club’s promising start under Hourihane gives them a strong case to persuade their talisman that Oakwell is the best place to continue his progress. Whether they can resist the financial temptation if significant bids arrive remains to be seen.
