Lincoln City Seal Agreement With Former Mansfield Town Figure

Lincoln City have secured the future of assistant head coach Tom Shaw, who has signed a new deal keeping him at the club until 2029.

The long-serving coach has been part of the Imps’ set-up for eight years after a playing career that saw him feature for Cambridge United, Rushden and Diamonds and local rivals Mansfield Town.

Shaw Commits Long-Term

Shaw originally joined the club as an Academy coach before stepping up to the senior staff in 2022. His rise was underlined in 2023 when he stepped into the hot seat as interim boss, guiding the side to back-to-back victories over Fleetwood Town and Charlton Athletic. That spell further enhanced his reputation and, when Michael Skubala was appointed head coach, Shaw was promoted to assistant head coach.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Shaw expressed his pride at the new deal and reiterated his bond with the club.

“I’m delighted to have been rewarded with a new contract by the club and I’m really appreciative of that. I’ve been here a long time in a number of different roles and to get to this point for me and my family to sign for the foreseeable future, I’m really pleased.

“I love the football club: it has been a big part of my coaching life and journey so I’m happy to be extending my stay.”

He added that the environment at the club, both among players and staff, has played a huge role in his development.

George Praises Coaching Pathway

Director of football Jez George highlighted the significance of Shaw’s journey as an example of the club’s wider commitment to developing staff as well as players.

“It isn’t just players that we try to develop but staff as well and Tom is one of many talented practitioners at the Elite Performance Centre who we rate highly.

“Tom is a great example of the pathways we provide, progressing from his role as youth team coach to working within the first team coaching staff to his current role, having also taken interim charge prior to Michael’s appointment.”

George stressed that Shaw has matured considerably over the years and that his continued presence will be vital as the club works toward its next set of ambitions under Skubala’s leadership.

Writer’s View

For Lincoln City, Shaw’s commitment until 2029 offers a layer of stability behind the scenes that should not be underestimated. His long association with the club and proven ability to adapt to senior responsibility underline why the Imps value him so highly.

Continuity in the coaching team is often as important as on-field recruitment, and in tying down Shaw the club have ensured a trusted figure remains at the heart of their project for the long term.
