Our Three Predictions For Lincoln City vs Luton Town

  • First Prediction: Match Result – Draw – 11/5
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 17/20
  • Third Prediction: James Collins To Score Anytime – 11/4

First Prediction For Lincoln City vs Luton Town – Match Result Draw – 11/5

Lincoln head into this game on a run of right games unbeaten in all competitions. They’ve tasted defeat just once all season, with that coming against AFC Wimbledon in early August. The Imps have long been known for being one of the toughest sides to beat in League One, something which the likes of Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic will surely agree with. Both teams have recently struggled to break down Michael Skubala’s team, picking up points in their respective clashes with the East Midlands-based outfit. It’s fair to say that the duo were both the better teams by far, showing just how resilient Lincoln are.

Luton were the favourites to win the division prior to the start of the campaign and it’s fair to say that they have underwhelmed thus far. They do have four wins from seven but they have been far from convincing, whilst they have also lost three times. This includes their 3-2 reverse against Plymouth Argyle at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, in a game where the visitors were forced to play with 10 men for the last 40 minutes after Joe Edwards was given his marching orders. They are the favourites heading into this game but it won’t be plain sailing and a share of the spoils is highly possible.

Second Prediction For Lincoln City vs Luton Town – Both Teams To Score – 17/20

Lincoln have only failed to score on one occasion this season and do possess a host of attacking threats. The evergreen James Collins already has four goals to his name, whilst the likes of Freddie Draper, Ben House, Reeco Hackett and Rob Street are all more than capable at this level. Despite that, they have just the three clean sheets with all of those coming against teams in the bottom half of the table. On top of that, three of the four fixtures played at the LNER Stadium so far have seen both teams score, the last of which saw an entertaining 2-2 draw against Wigan Athletic.

Luton’s inconsistencies make them difficult to predict. All four of their wins have come hand-in-hand with clean sheets, but they have shown that they are just as liable at the back, especially their defeats against Bradford City and Plymouth. That said, they have failed to score just once, with that coming against current league leaders Cardiff City.

Third Prediction For Lincoln City vs Luton Town – James Collins To Score Anytime – 11/4

James Collins recently scored his 200th and 201st career EFL goals when he bagged a brace against Wigan earlier this month. He has four goals to his name this season in eight appearances, mirroring his strike rate from last season with the Imps when he scored 10 times in 20 outings.

The 34-year-old has looked a constant threat for Skubala’s team this season and has previously enjoyed success against Luton He scored in back-to-back games against the Hatters for Crawley Town during the 2016/17 season and would love to add to that tally here. If Luton are to keep Lincoln at bay, they will do well by keeping Collins quiet.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Lincoln head into this game having lost just once in all competitions this season. Having started the campaign with a 2-0 win over Reading, the went down by the same scoreline to AFC Wimbledon a week later. However, it’s worth noting that the Imps had to play the majority of the game with 10 men after Adam Jackson was shown a straight red card in the first half. They recovered with back-to-back wins over Plymouth Argyle (3-2) and Northampton Town (1-0) before three successive draws against Bolton Wanderers (1-1), Mansfield Town (1-1) and Wigan Athletic (2-2). They returned to winning ways at the weekend though with a 1-0 victory over Burton Albion, the same scoreline in which they defeated the Brewers in the Carabao Cup second round to set up a clash against Premier League giants and World Champions Chelsea.

It’s been a dire couple of years for Luton fans, who have seen their team suffer back-to-back relegations to fall from the Premier League to League One. They were widely tipped to win the division this season and started off with a 1-0 win over Wimbledon, although the performance left a lot to be desired. A 2-0 victory against Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium followed before they tasted defeat for the first time with a shock loss against newly promoted Bradford City (2-1). This started off a run of inconsistent form for Matt Bloomfield’s side. A 1-0 triumph over Wigan Athletic was followed by a 1-0 loss against Cardiff City. They bounced back to beat Burton (3-0), but will be hugely disappointed to have suffered a 3-2 defeat against 10-men Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

Luton have dominated this fixture over the years and are unbeaten against Lincoln in their past 14 meetings. This is a run that has seen them clash in the National League, FA Cup and League Two. The Imps last tasted victory against the Hatters in April 1999 when they won 1-0 at Kenilworth Road. However, they have not beaten the Bedfordshire-based side at Sincil Bank since a staggering 8-1 win in 1966.
