Peterborough United Man Makes Bold Claim As U’s Remain Bottom

Peterborough United skipper Peter Kioso believes his side are close to turning a corner despite falling to a 3-2 defeat at Huddersfield Town.

Posh remain bottom of League One with just a single point from seven games, but Kioso was adamant that the performance at the John Smith’s Stadium showed encouraging signs.

Kioso’s Verdict

“It’s a tough one to take,” said Kioso. “We did not deserve to lose that game. We were easily the better team, but no-one cares about that if you don’t get the three points. We were excellent on the ball and carved them open until we got to the final third.

“We scored two goals which hasn’t happened for a while so that was good. Every goal they scored was because of a mistake by us which, as a team, we need to cut out.”

Kioso, on loan from Rotherham United, admitted his side must sharpen up in attack and take more risks in front of goal, adding that confidence is nonetheless building within the dressing room. He stressed the need to “dust ourselves down” and maintain belief that results will soon follow.

How The Game Unfolded

Peterborough led through Jimmy-Jay Morgan’s fortunate second-half opener, only for Huddersfield to hit back with three goals that flipped the contest. Substitute Cian Hayes struck late in stoppage time, but his effort proved no more than a consolation as Posh slipped to another narrow defeat.

The match once again highlighted the fragility in Posh’s defending, with individual errors costing them after a promising display of possession football. It was also the first full 90 minutes of the season for Kioso, who insisted match sharpness across the squad will improve with time.

Wycombe Up Next

Posh now face Wycombe Wanderers at the Weston Homes Stadium next Saturday, with the Chairboys buoyed by a first win of the season against Mansfield Town. The fixture provides an immediate opportunity for Peterborough to lift themselves from the bottom, but only if they can turn improved displays into points.

Writer’s View

While Kioso’s optimism is admirable, the reality is that seven games without a win leaves Peterborough in an early battle for survival. Performances may be improving, but unless the defensive lapses are eradicated, confidence alone will not halt the slide, and fan patience is already wearing thin.

The clash with Wycombe now feels crucial, both for the table and for belief within the squad. A first victory could spark a revival, but another setback would deepen the pressure on a side that has been unable to build momentum since the season began.
