Sheffield Wednesday Launch Move For Premier League Starlet

Sheffield Wednesday could make a late swoop for Jaden Heskey, according to reports from Football Insider.

With chaos going on off of the field at Hillsborough, the Owls have been forced into using the loan and free agent markets this summer to replace the exodus of players leaving this summer. Henrik Pedersen could make one more dive into the loan market with Jaden Heskey a potential target to relieve their limited squad depth up front.

Owls Need More Options

With the loss of key players like Josh Windass, who later joined Wrexham, Wednesday have been left with just three senior attacking options this summer in Jamal Lowe, Ike Ugbo and Bailey Cadamarteri. However, they could face even more concerns after reports that bids for Cadamarteri could come in the final hours of the window from Championship sides like Preston North End and Steel City rivals Sheffield United, with the latter having an offer rejected already.

However, a solution could come in the form of Manchester City’s promising striker Jaden Heskey, who Sheffield Wednesday have begun talks over with the Premier League giants for a possible loan move. The son of England and Liverpool icon Emile Heskey, the 19-year-old has been a star of the Citizens’ academy sides, and now looks set to take his first steps into senior football.

Wednesday cannot currently register new players due to the sanctions placed upon them by the English Football League, and according to the latest reports from the Sheffield Star, no breakthrough has been reached to lift the current ban but the Owls do have players lined up should a consensus be reached.

The mess currently going on at Sheffield Wednesday could cost them dearly should they agree to sell Bailey Cadamarteri on deadline day. Having two senior strikers for the first half of the season leaves them frighteningly scarce in terms of goalscoring options so reaching an agreement to lift the embargo is a necessity to boost their chances of survival this season. Jaden Heskey does have promise from his performances at Manchester City’s academy but if the ban is not lifted, there is nothing that can be done to sign the 19-year-old on loan before the 7pm deadline.
