A summer overhaul of Huddersfield Town is nearing its completion, with Lee Grant’s latest signing bolstering the creative areas of the squad. Leicester City’s Will Alves becomes the Terriers’ 13th signing of the window.
The 20-year-old midfielder has joined Grant’s side as they look to expand on a promising start to the league season. Having spent the latter half of last season on loan at Cardiff City, the impressive youngster will now drop down a division to continue his development.
As an upper-echelon talent in League One, Alves has already proved he is more than capable of performing in the Championship. As part of an under-achieving and relegated Cardiff side, Alves was one of the key, bright sparks in the lineup. In 15 appearances, the 20-year-old scored once but offered three assists and a creative outlet in the midfield areas.
Huddersfield have already picked up four temporary signings this summer. Owen Goodman joined on a season-long deal from Crystal Palace, while Josh Feeney moved from Aston Villa and Leo Castledine completed a temporary switch from Chelsea. Alves is joining from Championship side, Leicester, but offers a similar profile to those arriving with Premier League training. The Foxes’ campaign in the top flight throughout the 2024/25 season handed Alves just one appearance.
Alves had this to say on his latest career move:
“After hearing about the interest and talking about the vision of the club with Lee Grant, I had zero hesitation in saying yes to this move. Having experienced the intensity, hunger and quality of the team already for myself this season, that was something I was really keen on becoming a part of and contributing to.
“I’m an attack-minded player and love impacting games with goals and assists, so that’s what I want to bring for Town this season. The team have started brilliantly and there is quality and depth in almost every position, so I know that I’ll need to be at my best each and every day here which is an appealing challenge.”
Lee Grant also had a few important words on the profile that the attacking player can offer:
“Will is a gifted young attacking player with heaps of potential, and his desire to improve, be involved and impact games could not have been more evident in the conversations we’ve enjoyed before finalising this move.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with him alongside our coaches to help harness and unlock more of that ability within games.”

This is an important move that makes sense for both parties. Alves needs to continue his development at an ambitious side that can offer him permanent playing time while on loan.
The Terriers are also adding attacking quality to their ranks as they look to return to the Championship.
