Southampton are set to sign German midfielder Caspar Jander from Nürnberg after reaching a full agreement with the 2.Bundesliga club.
The 22-year-old is travelling for a medical today, with the deal expected to be finalised in the coming hours.
Saints secure midfield addition
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg confirmed the transfer, describing it as a “done deal” following an earlier verbal agreement. The move will see Jander join on a permanent basis as Southampton continue to reshape their squad under head coach Will Still.
Jander has emerged as one of the more promising young midfielders in Germany, making his mark in the Nürnberg first team and attracting interest from clubs across Europe.
He began at DJK Germania Mauritz before spells with Preußen Münster, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke as a youth. He debuted professionally with MSV Duisburg, making 60 appearances, before joining 1. FC Nürnberg in 2024. Internationally, he has represented Germany at U20 and U21 level.
Southampton have acted quickly to bring him in before the window closes, with the expectation that he will add energy and technical quality to the centre of the pitch.

Southampton’s summer rebuild
The signing of Jander continues a busy transfer period for the Saints as they look to mount a promotion challenge back to the Premier League. Still has overseen a series of ins and outs since his arrival, with Southampton focused on blending Championship experience with youthful talent from abroad.
Jander’s ability to operate as a box-to-box midfielder fits the profile of player Southampton have been targeting. At 22, he has already shown the composure to dictate play in central areas and could develop further in English football’s second tier.
The midfielder will undergo medical checks before completing the formalities of his switch to St Mary’s. Once confirmed, he is expected to link up immediately with his new teammates and could be in contention to feature after the international break.
Writer’s View
This is a statement signing for Southampton. Jander’s arrival demonstrates the club’s willingness to scour Europe for emerging talent and bring them into a competitive Championship environment. If he adapts quickly, he could provide the dynamism and control that Will Still’s midfield requires.
For a club determined to return to the Premier League at the first opportunity, landing a player of Jander’s pedigree could be pivotal.
