Port Vale Move For Championship Target: Loan Deal Agreed

Port Vale have moved to sharpen their attack after a flat opening to the League One campaign by securing Derby County forward Dajaune Brown on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old arrives as Darren Moore seeks a cutting edge following two points from five league games, with clean sheets offset by narrow defeats and scarce goals.

Addressing the goal problem

After drawing with Cardiff and Burton and slipping to one-goal losses against Stevenage and Doncaster, Vale’s issue has been obvious: chance creation and conversion. Performances have contained industry and structure, yet fine margins have repeatedly gone against them.

Moore’s coaching has tightened Vale without the ball, but with only two league goals so far, the balance needs recalibrating. Brown’s spell at Gateshead last season showcased end-product across different game states, while his senior minutes with Derby underline that he is ready for the rigours of senior football. He’s quick and direct, offers vertical running to stretch defences and a willingness to attack space between centre-backs, qualities that can complement the existing options.

The plan will be to integrate him swiftly into combinations with the wing-backs and the advanced midfielders, so that Vale can arrive in the box with numbers rather than relying on isolated strikes.

Manager’s message and integration

Moore’s endorsement was emphatic and pointed to a long-standing recruitment track:

“We’re delighted to welcome Dajaune to the club for the remainder of the campaign – he’s someone we’ve been monitoring for a while now and a player who we feel can really add to what we’re doing here at Port Vale.

“Our thanks to Derby County for trusting us with his development, and we’ll look forward to integrating him with the group this week.”

That integration will matter. Vale have been competitive in long stretches, yet moments have swung games away. A runner beyond the last line should also open pockets for creative teammates to operate, while set pieces may benefit from Brown’s movement across the near post.

With fixture tempo unrelenting, early clarity on his role – whether starting or as an impact substitute – will help the collective settle.

Writer’s View

The table is tight in late August, so one result can alter mood quickly. Vale’s defensive base is not far from where it needs to be, and the addition of a mobile forward aims to tilt tight contests. Brown’s development arc suits Moore’s longer-term view, yet the immediate ask is simple: help turn draws into wins.

Support from the flanks and quicker ball speed through midfield will dictate how quickly he makes a mark. If Vale can marry their organisation with a sharper edge, the narrative of a “tough start” can shift quickly into one of growth and momentum.
