Morecambe have secured their 13th summer signing with the capture of former Portsmouth midfielder Miguel Azeez.
The one-time Arsenal youngster joins the Shrimps, subject to international clearance, adding further depth to Ashvir Singh Johal’s rapidly rebuilt squad.
Arsenal Graduate Joins The Shrimps
Azeez, 22, came through the academy at Arsenal and signed professional terms in 2019. He made his senior debut for the Gunners in December 2020, appearing as a late substitute in a Europa League victory against Dundalk.
Loan moves followed in England and abroad, with spells at Portsmouth, Wigan Athletic and Spanish side UD Ibiza, before Azeez departed the Emirates last summer. He has since featured for Atletico Baleares in Spain and PAS Giannina in Greece, gaining valuable experience across different leagues and styles of play.
The midfielder has also represented England up to Under-20 level, underlining the pedigree of Johal’s latest recruit.
Speaking to the club’s website, Azeez expressed his excitement at linking up with Morecambe:
“If I could put the shirt on right now, I would; we all have the same ambition, which is to excite the fans. We’ve been in a really tough situation and I feel like we all need to start enjoying our football again, including the fans.”

Johal’s Rebuild Gathers Pace
Manager Ashvir Singh Johal, who took charge at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium earlier this summer, has wasted no time reshaping his squad. With more than a dozen signings completed, he believes Azeez has the qualities to thrive in League Two.
Johal said:
“I’m really happy that Miguel decided to join us. There was interest from clubs all over Europe, competing in high leagues. Once we presented the project to him, and what we want to achieve here, he turned down those offers to join us.
“It’s a true testament to what we’re trying to build here. I think he’s a player that the fans are going to love. He’s got an incredible footballing brain, a midfielder that really controls the game and will always give his all.”
The Shrimps will hope Azeez can make an immediate impact as they look to settle into the new campaign, with his debut potentially coming once clearance is finalised. His technical ability and composure in midfield could prove invaluable for a side that has undergone major changes in recent weeks.

This is a significant signing for Morecambe, not just in terms of numbers but quality. Azeez’s background at Arsenal and experience across multiple leagues should give Johal’s side a different dimension in the middle of the park. At just 22, he still has the potential to develop further, and his willingness to buy into Morecambe’s long-term project suggests a player hungry to prove himself.
If he adapts quickly to the demands of League Two, he could become one of the standout additions of the window.
