Our Three Predictions For Gillingham FC vs Crewe Alexandra

  • Prediction 1 – Josh March To Score – 12/5
  • Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 10/11
  • Prediction 3 – Crewe Alexandra To Win – 8/5

First Prediction For Gillingham FC vs Crewe Alexandra – Josh March To Score – 12/5

Arguably the most form player in League Two right now, Josh March has five goal contributions in four league games. With no midweek game to rest players for, Lee Bell will be able to give March a full match to get his second goal of the season against Gillingham, who have only kept one clean sheet so far this season. In his previous game, he got three shots on target, including one goal from an audacious effort well outside of the box. Across the League Two season so far, March has had 13 shots and five of those have been on target, leading the fourth tier in both metrics. He will be a very good choice to get on the scoresheet in this fixture.

Second Prediction For Gillingham FC vs Crewe Alexandra – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 10/11

On top of their fine performance against Fleetwood Town, Crewe Alexandra are also the leading goalscorers across the entire EFL this season with 10 in the league on top of the solitary goal they found in their EFL Cup loss to Stockport County. Gillingham themselves though are strong in front of goal, with seven so far in their opening four league fixtures and have the league’s current top scorer in Armani Little, who shares the lead with Fleetwood’s Will Davies. Whilst there are of course headline defenders in both squads with Mickey Demetriou for the Railwaymen and Shadrach Ogie for Gareth Ainsworth’s side, the current good form of both attacks may overwhelm these talented players.

Third Prediction For Gillingham FC vs Crewe Alexandra – Crewe Alexandra To Win – 8/5

If you haven’t seen Crewe Alexandra’s performance against Fleetwood Town, it is a must-watch. Their potency against what is a very good side within this division was sublime and there is a reason why the Cheshire side are the only side with a 100% winning record in League Two. Whilst this will be their greatest test yet with Gareth Ainsworth’s work at Priestfield beginning to succeed, the Alex look unstoppable as of late, only being brought down by one of League One’s best sides in Stockport County. Whilst their form in Kent has been dreadful in recent years, this could be the time for them to break their duck.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Gillingham look to be on an upward trend after last season’s struggles under both John Coleman and Mark Bonner last season. Gareth Ainsworth has led the Gills to a good start and enter the weekend as one of only six teams yet to lose in the fourth tier. They sit in sixth place with two wins and two draws, and also drew their EFL Cup first round tie against AFC Wimbledon, which the London side won on penalties. Their last game was perhaps their best moment yet, convincingly beating promotion contenders Chesterfield 4-1 at home, recovering from their previous draw to Tranmere Rovers. They opened the season with a score draw away to Accrington Stanley, before beating Walsall at home, their only clean sheet so far this season. The Kent side are currently on a 16-game unbeaten streak, having last tasted defeat to Newport County at the start of March. That game against the Spireites saw the debut of Sam Vokes for the club, while Max Clark will return from suspension.

Crewe Alexandra, meanwhile, enter this contest as the current league leaders in League Two and only alongside Stevenage as the two sides with 100% records in the third and fourth tiers. They do not have a perfect season, however, losing to Stockport County in the first round of the EFL Cup. However, it has been great so far for the Railwaymen, with an opening day win against Salford City being built upon by victories over Crawley Town, Accrington Stanley and Fleetwood Town. The win against the Cod Army was their finest yet, matching Gillingham’s 4-1 winning scoreline with teriffic goals from Josh March and Calum Agius. They are the only side to reach double digits for goals scored, with 10. They come into the game with some positive injury news as Louis Moult could be involved in this match after beginning training earlier this week.

These two sides have been regular opponents in recent history so there are plenty of fixtures to pick at. Overall, it is Gillingham who have the lead in games since 2010, with nine wins to Crewe’s seven on top of four draws. The most recent match between these sides ended in a goalless draw on Medway, whilst the reverse fixture was a comfortable 2-0 win for the Alex at Gresty Road. For matches at Priestfield, the results are staggeringly in the home team’s favour with the Railwaymen’s last win in Kent coming back in 2014, seven games ago. They have lost five and drawn two of those games, losing on a combined scoreline of 12 goals to two.

Abigail Byrne will officiate this fixture, her second appointment of the season. Her only previous game this year came in the third gameweek of League Two action, overseeing Walsall’s away win at Barnet, where she handed out three cards and one red to Nnamdi Ofoborh for a second yellow card offence.
