Birmingham City Land Premier League Prospect Loan

Birmingham City have bolstered their attacking department further with Lewis Koumas having opted to join the Blues.

A Wales international, the Liverpool forward had been coveted by multiple Championship clubs over the summer following his successful spell at Stoke City last season, scoring six times and recording a further three assists in 49 appearances for Mark Robins’ Potters. A move to his homeland was on the cards with Wrexham interested in the 19-year-old, as well as Sheffield United, who have recruited from the Premier League loan market with Aston Villa’s Louie Barry.

Koumas Chooses City

According to Fabrizio Romano on his social media pages, Koumas has opted to move to St. Andrew’s for the season, with the Italian giving his trademark ‘here we go’ slogan to the move. An agreement has been reached between Birmingham and Liverpool, and the versatile forward is now set for a medical in the West Midlands.

He becomes the latest forward to move to the club this summer as they look to continue their upwards trajectory as League One title winners, with Japanese international Kyogo Furuhashi being the most high-profile name to arrive at the Tom Brady-backed outfit from Rennes. Another attacker joined following the start of the season, finally securing the services of Marvin Ducksch from Germany.

Reports earlier this week linked Blues with a move for two-time Championship Golden Boot winner Aleksandar Mitrovic, but those reports have since been quashed. Birmingham have already agreed 11 transfers this summer as they look to give a good account of themselves back in the second tier, and currently sit in sixth place after two matches, preparing to face Oxford United this weekend.

With plenty of attacking talent already at the club, a move for Lewis Koumas will likely see him challenge Demarai Gray for a first-team place at right wing. Koumas’ Championship experience with Stoke last season was impressive, and now he will have a second opportunity to impress at a club firmly on the way up. The Jamaican international has not had many injury issues in recent years so Chris Davies will have to balance their game time perfectly. Luckily, both could also operate on the opposite flank, meaning that either wing has strong cover in a season which will be more demanding for Blues.

Lewis Gray joined The Real EFL in October 2023, concentrating on news, transfers, and predictions, particularly within League Two. A journalist since 2021, he formerly worked at Salford Now, covering local sports and serving as sports editor. He provided in-depth coverage of Salford City FC’s 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns. Holding a First-Class Honours degree in Multimedia Journalism from the University of Salford, Lewis is devoted to giving lower-league clubs the attention they deserve in an era dominated by top-flight football.
