Our Three Predictions for Derby County vs Bristol City

  • First Prediction: Bristol City to win – 7/5
  • Second Prediction: Both teams to score – 17/20
  • Third Prediction: Scott Twine to score at any time – 3/1

First Prediction for Derby County vs Bristol City – Bristol City to win – 7/5

Although Bristol City’s away form is considerably worse than their form at Ashton Gate, Derby are yet to get going under John Eustace this season, and have yet to win a game in 90 minutes. A draw and subsequent win on penalties against West Bromwich Albion in the EFL Cup, followed a 3-1 away defeat at Stoke City, whilst the Rams were on the wrong side of an eight-goal thriller against Coventry City last weekend. City, on the other hand, have started this season well under new manager Gerhard Struber, winning two of their three games, and going undefeated in all competitions so far. A surprising 4-1 away win at Bramall Lane was followed by a 2-0 win against MK Dons in the EFL Cup. Last weekend, they were held to a goalless draw at Ashton Gate by Charlton Athletic. Historically, this tie has gone one way or another, with only five of the 23 ties ending in draws, and on the balance of play, at the moment, the away side look the more likely to take all three points at Pride Park on Friday night.

Second Prediction for Derby County vs Bristol City – Both teams to score – 17/20

One thing both sides have proved they can do well in the early days of this season is put the ball in the back of the net. Eustace’s side, despite not winning a game in 90 minutes yet, have scored five goals in three games, three of which came against a competitive Coventry side last weekend. The away sides’ record is one better with six, and this is despite them not being able to find a breakthrough against a defensively sound Charlton side on Saturday. They scored four goals on the opening day, against a Sheffield United side who are expected to be up there this season, showing that, unlike last season, they can find where the back of the net is. One thing the hosts aren’t great at, however, is keeping the ball out of their goal; the side have conceded seven goals in the three games they’ve played. Their opponents have only conceded once, so it will be a tough task on Friday, but with the number of goals Derby are scoring, this game could be a relatively high-scoring clash.

Third Prediction for Derby County vs Bristol City – Scott Twine to score at any time – 3/1

Set-piece specialist Scott Twine has proved why Bristol City paid a hefty fee for him in recent times. Despite having an injury-riddled campaign last season, Twine still scored six goals and provided a further three assists in 37 appearances. The versatile forward has already got his campaign underway for this season, scoring two and assisting once in the two Championship games he’s featured in so far. He and his side alike will be hoping he can further his tally to help his side out on Friday against a defensively suspect Derby side.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both sides are on completely different form coming into this game. The home side have yet to win this season, while City are unbeaten, having won two games and drawn once in all competitions so far.

Both sides will be looking to improve on last season’s fortunes. Derby stayed up on the final day of the season, while Bristol City finished in the play-offs but had a disappointing play-off campaign, losing 6-0 on aggregate to the Blades.

Since 2010, these sides have met each other a whopping 23 times, 22 of which have come in the Championship, with the other coming in a pre-season friendly. Interestingly, both sides have won this tie nine times each, whilst the other five games have ended level at full-time. Last time these sides met, Bristol City claimed all three points thanks to an early first-half header from centre-back Luke McNally at Ashton Gate.
