- Third Prediction For Charlton Athletic vs Leicester City: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/4
First Prediction For Charlton Athletic vs Leicester City: Match Result – Draw – 11/5
Leicester have yet to get going in their attempt for an immediate return to the Premier League. A win and a loss are hardly the ideal return for Martí Cifuentes against two sides anticipated to struggle this term, with Birmingham City providing a huge test next Friday evening. After Charlton’s impressive start, two London derbies are next up, either side of the international break. The Valley faithful will play their part in getting a result this Saturday, with over 20k in attendance on the opening day, the first time that figure had been achieved in August since 2008. A similar number will be at the meeting against Leicester, hoping to get a positive result in this televised clash.
Second Prediction For Charlton Athletic vs Leicester City: Under 2.5 Goals – 17/25
With no forward reinforcements for the Foxes thus far, their goalscoring abilities have been blunted. Relying on a sixteen-year-old to net their only goal last weekend, Leicester need attacking signings to strengthen their promotion ambitions, but little has been said in that regard as of yet. Charlton have spent plenty on their new-look attack, but summer signing Charlie Kelman is yet to get off the mark for the Addicks. Goals are not expected to be in plentiful supply this weekend, with a one-all draw tipped to be the likely outcome.
Third Prediction For Charlton Athletic vs Leicester City: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/4
Eleven years have passed since these two teams last met, with Leicester winning three-nil early in March on their way to promotion to the top-flight. The former Premier League and FA Cup champions have struggled to find their way in recent times, joining a handful of clubs aiming to avoid stagnation in the second tier. That is a position Charlton would perhaps be happy with currently, as they strive to avoid dropping straight back into League One. Both sides should be on the scoresheet this weekend.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Charlton Athletic have made a surprisingly good start to their first second-tier season in five years. Having suffered relegation from the Championship in 2020, after winning the Play-Offs a year earlier in dramatic style, they made their return to this level via the same method. Finishing last year in top form, they narrowly missed out on automatic promotion at Wrexham before going again in the end-of-season competition. A drab two-legged affair against Wycombe Wanderers was finally decided by a single Matty Godden goal with nine minutes of the second leg remaining. London rivals Leyton Orient were defeated at Wembley, courtesy of Macaulay Gillesphey’s free-kick. And their return to this level could hardly have gone better on the opening day, with a dream first result. Harvey Knibbs took the roof of The Valley with a 94th-minute winner to seal a deserved victory. Progression in the Carabao Cup was straightforward against Stevenage, as goals from Miles Leaburn and Ibrahim Fullah, on his first start, gave them a two-goal cushion at the interval. Luke Berry sealed their progress, with Nathan Jones’ eleven changes making no difference to the outcome.
Last weekend, the very early Championship leaders, Bristol City, were the Addicks’ next assignment, after the Robins thrashed Sheffield United in a statement victory. But this meeting at Ashton Gate was very much lacking in goalmouth action, with just the three shots on target in the game. The home side came the closest to breaking the deadlock when Anis Mehmeti struck the woodwork, but Charlton took home a solid away point from the South West. Along with Knibbs’ arrival from Reading, Sonny Carey, Rob Apter (both Blackpool) and Tanto Olaofe (Stockport County) were all acquired from the third tier. Charlie Kelman moves from West London side Queens Park Rangers, having won the League One golden boot last term, while Luton Town trio Thomas Kaminski, Amari’i Bell & Reece Burke bolster their backline. Jon Rankin-Costello completes their changed defence, with Thierry Small their major outgoing to Preston North End. Alex Mitchell moved to Plymouth Argyle on loan yesterday evening.
Finding positives from the away defeat at Preston North End is challenging, but one young star shone very brightly last Saturday. Sixteen-year-old Jeremy Monga was the Foxes’ goalscorer in the narrow reverse at Deepdale, becoming the youngest ever scorer in Championship history. After winning on the opening day against Sheffield Wednesday, Martí Cifuentes’ outfit crashed out of the Carabao Cup on penalties at Huddersfield Town, following a score draw against the Terriers. Even that victory against the Owls did little to raise spirits, given all the issues surrounding the South Yorkshire side. Facing a side with only fifteen fit senior players, Leicester trailed at the interval, requiring an equaliser early in the second period from Jannik Vestergaard. And after Barry Bannan was given a second yellow card, the Owls’ resilience was finally broken three minutes from time as Wout Faes scored the Foxes’ second goal from a set-piece at the King Power on the opening day. While Leicester finished the season in eighteenth place, the highest of the three relegated sides, two of their six victories came in the final four games. Now, on paper at least, they are the least fancied to bounce back at the first time of asking, though still expected to challenge at the top end of the Championship.
Martí Cifuentes was appointed the Foxes’ new manager in mid-July, only a few weeks before the campaign got underway. He replaced Ruud van Nistelrooy after his disastrous stint in charge of the East Midlands outfit, losing fifteen of his nineteen games in charge. That compares to the seven lost in fifteen by predecessor Steve Cooper, who was dismissed midway through their last season. Cifuentes has made just one signing to date thus far; goalkeeper Asmir Begović reignites with his old manager following their time together at Queens Park Rangers. Outgoings have been plentiful, and in key areas too. Three keepers have departed, with Mads Hermansen leaving for West Ham United for a fee in the region of £20m. Daniel Iversen (Preston North End) and Danny Ward (Wrexham) both remain in the second tier, with Conor Coady also joining the Red Dragons for a seven-figure fee. Wilfred Ndidi moves to the Turkish top-flight with Besiktas, while Jamie Vardy remains without a club following his legendary spell with the Foxes.
