Our Three Predictions For Notts County vs Shrewsbury Town

  • Prediction 1 – Matthew Dennis To Score – 13/8
  • Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 20/21
  • Prediction 3 – Notts County To Win – 4/6

First Prediction For Notts County vs Shrewsbury Town – Matthew Dennis To Score – 13/8

With Alassana Jatta still yet to make an appearance this campaign following his disrupted pre-season and suspension hangover from last season, Matthew Dennis has been the leading man at Meadow Lane. Getting off the mark on the weekend against Barrow has made his start for the Magpies a positive one and the former Carlisle United man will fancy his chances in this contest. Shrewsbury have not had a great time defensively since their opening day draw against Bromley, with only Cheltenham Town conceding more so far this season. Whilst Jatta may be given his first game by Martin Paterson, Dennis will certainly have plenty of game time to get on the score sheet again.

Second Prediction For Notts County vs Shrewsbury Town – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 20/21

These two teams have struggled so far this season, and these defensive troubles could lead to an open game for the attacks. With Jodi Jones and Nick Tsaroulla out wide for County and both Dennis and potentially Jatta up front, the hosts will fancy their chances against a defence that has been decimated by both Tranmere Rovers and Grimsby Town in the opening weeks of the season. Salop do have experienced strikers like John Marquis in their side and will hope that this game could see them get off the mark in terms of league goals against a team that has conceded in all four of their opening games this season.

Third Prediction For Notts County vs Shrewsbury Town – Notts County To Win – 4/6

This is a primed opportunity for both sides to get three points on the board after rotten starts to their campaigns. However, the displays of both sides have been very different, with Notts County running sides like Salford City and Wigan Athletic close, whilst there has been little to shout about for Shrewsbury. With home advantage and form within matches on their side, last season’s play-off semi-finalists are firm favourites to win this match and finally progress up the table.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Notts County’s start under Martin Paterson hasn’t gone exactly to plan, with the Magpies yet to get off of the board in the win column this season. Their solitary point came on the opening day of the season, drawing in a score draw against Newport County. Narrow losses have come in their following three games, starting with a 2-1 loss away to Salford City before being dumped out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Wigan Athletic despite dominating possession. The weekend saw another loss, this time in heartbreaking fashion with a 97th minute winner for Barrow courtesy of Lewis Shipley. This game could see the first involvement of the season for Alassana Jatta, who has yet to make a squad so far this season.

Shrewsbury Town have largely picked up where they left off last season, and sit in a very precarious position should they taste defeat once more on Wednesday. Like their opponents, they drew on the opening day, this time against Bromley but since then have looked second best in their following matches. Tranmere Rovers routed them 4-0 on the Wirral, before being convincingly dumped out of the cup by Grimsby Town. The weekend saw Colchester United beat Michael Appleton’s men 2-0 at the New Meadow.

This will be the first time in over a decade that these two sides have played each other in league competition, but this fixture was played last season in the opening round of the EFL Cup. They played out a 3-3 draw in Shropshire, with Salop winning on penalties. The previous season also saw an FA Cup clash which Town won 3-2 at Meadow Lane. County’s last win over Salop came in 2012 with a late Lee Hughes goal handing all three points to the Magpies in League One.

Darren Drysdale will officiate this fixture, and this will be his second game as the lead referee of the season, having overseen the season opener for the entire EFL when Barnet played Newport County in the EFL Cup Preliminary Round. He handed out three yellow cards in that match, which County won on penalties.
