Blackpool striker Kylian Kouassi has joined Cambridge United on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old heads to League Two in search of regular football after finding opportunities limited at Bloomfield Road.
Cambridge Strengthen Attack
Kouassi made the switch to Blackpool in August 2023 after leaving Sutton United, where he came through the academy. Since then, he has featured 24 times for the Seasiders in all competitions, scoring five goals and supplying two assists.
Last season, the forward spent time on loan at Salford City, making 31 appearances and scoring three goals before a hamstring injury cut short his campaign. He now links up with Cambridge, who are looking to add firepower to their forward line as they target progress in League Two.
Blackpool boss Steve Bruce confirmed last week that a loan was likely, stressing the importance of securing minutes for the striker.
“He needs to go and play somewhere. If he’s not going to get game time with us, then we might look into that. We need to see him progress and play.
“He has to stay well because he picked up an awful hamstring injury, so let’s hope it’s the last one of them. He’s had a good pre-season, and has trained hard – he just needs games.”

Blackpool’s Striking Competition
Kouassi has found himself behind Ashley Fletcher, Niall Ennis and new signing Dale Taylor in the pecking order at Blackpool, while Tom Bloxham has also been used in advanced roles. That competition left the young striker with limited prospects for involvement in League One this season.
The move to Cambridge presents him with a chance to establish himself in a side where opportunities are likely to be more frequent. His versatility allows him to operate either as a central forward or in a supporting role, qualities that could make him a valuable addition for the U’s.
Writer’s View
This looks a sensible move for all parties. Kouassi has shown glimpses of potential at both Sutton United and Blackpool but now needs a consistent run of games to prove he can be a reliable scorer.
Cambridge United gain an energetic forward with EFL experience, while Blackpool benefit from his development without sacrificing depth in their first-team squad. If he stays fit, this loan spell could be pivotal in shaping the next stage of Kouassi’s career.
