Hull City remain active in the transfer market with further signings expected before the deadline, despite working under strict EFL restrictions.
The Tigers have already brought in 11 new players, but with two weeks left of the summer window, there are still gaps manager Sergej Jakirović and his recruitment team are keen to address.
Hull City’s Transfer Picture
City’s activity has been notable given their limitations, with the club operating under a business plan that prevents them from paying transfer fees. That has forced deals to be restricted to loans and free transfers, yet the additions of Oli McBurnie, John Lundstram, Semi Ajayi and Brandon Williams have added depth and experience.
The squad looks stronger than the one that finished last season, a fact reflected in the four points earned from their first two Championship matches. McBurnie in particular has made an immediate impact, scoring in both games so far. However, injuries to Ajayi and concerns over squad balance mean further business is still likely.

Areas Still to Strengthen
Midfield reinforcements remain a priority after the club missed out on Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer. A replacement for Abu Kamara, who is expected to leave for Getafe, is also on the agenda. Jakirović would ideally like another wide option, and there is still hope of landing an additional attacking player before the window closes.
Mohamed Belloumi’s return from injury is seen as a major boost, while Liam Millar is expected to rejoin the squad after the international break. Both are viewed as important options for the months ahead.
Key Decisions Ahead
Much could hinge on the futures of goalkeeper Ivor Pandur and captain Charlie Hughes, who have both attracted summer interest. The Tigers are reluctant to sell but acknowledge that significant bids could force difficult decisions. Any departure would leave gaps that must be filled, though City’s restrictions mean replacements could only be secured without transfer fees.
The EFL has yet to deliver its verdict on Hull’s appeal against their three-window fee restriction, leaving the club in limbo. Ten days on from the hearing, no update has been provided, forcing the Tigers to continue operating under current rules.
Writer’s View
Hull City’s summer business has been resourceful, with 11 players added despite financial limitations. The squad is undoubtedly stronger, but injuries and the potential for key departures mean work is not done. If McBurnie continues his strong start and further reinforcements arrive in midfield and wide areas, the Tigers could be well placed to build on their promising start to the season.
The uncertainty over EFL restrictions, however, casts a shadow over what should otherwise be a positive window.
