Bristol Rovers have confirmed the season-long loan signing of Barnsley defender Kacper Lopata on the club’s official website.
The Polish defender is the tenth summer signing for The Gas.
Clarke Pleased With Defensive Reinforcement
Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke worked with Lopata during his time at Oakwell, though the defender was out on loan, and is pleased to have added to his options in the defensive areas.
“We are pleased to welcome Kacper to Bristol Rovers. We have been looking to bring in reinforcements to our defensive options and he brings a strong profile to our group.”
“I worked with Kacper at Barnsley and I know about his strengths, ability and what he can bring to the team. He is an aggressive and dominant centre-back that we are looking forward to working with in the coming months.”
Lopata’s arrival was welcomed by the club’s director of football Ricky Martin who said:
“Kacper is an imposing and powerful centre-back who is passionate about the role of a defender in the team.”
“While only 23 years old, Kacper already has a good number of appearances in the EFL and SPL, and an understanding of the demands of football at this level.”
“We are looking forward to working with him and furthering his development both on and off the pitch while he is with us.”

Big Season Ahead For Lopata
Kacper Lopata is a former Poland Under-21 international who has already featured for several clubs despite only being 23 years old.
He was signed by Brighton and Hove Albion before a move to Sheffield United in 2020 but found game time limited at Bramall Lane. He spent time on loan at Southend United before making that move permanent before a switch to Woking.
That stay was short-lived before he gained a move back to the Football League with League One side Barnsley. Loan moves to Port Vale and Scottish side Ross County followed before his switch to Bristol Rovers.
Writer’s View
Lopata will be hopeful that time under his former manager will lead to a consistent season of first-team football.
He has moved around a lot on loan deals and it would appear he is not in Barnsley’s plans so a positive season in Bristol could bring about a permanent move and an opportunity to stay at a club long term.
